Frandy Fishery
Welcome to the 2010 Season
Week Ending 22nd August 2010
Jimmy Hatton & Ian Yuill from Kelty kept 12 fish weighing 27lb, Andrew Lawrie & Derek Cadher (Arbroath) 8 for 18lb, Tom Buchanan & Keith Muirhead (Glasgow) 12 fish for 32lb 8oz and Bill Ramage (Tillicoultry) kept 6 fish weighing 18lb. John Banner & Eric Birrell (Sauchie) took 9 fish weighing 19lb 8oz, Jim Sheehan & Party (Bridge of Allan) 11 for 20lb and Tom Burt & John Baird (Edinburgh) kept 7 fish weighing 12lb 4oz.
On the club front Tayside Police A/C kept 8 fish weighing 19lb, Midlothian A/C had 5 fish for 10lb 8oz, Gartcosh A/C 12 for 26lb 5oz, Thistle A/C 24 for 45lb 10oz, Perth Civil Service Club kept 19 fish weighing 36lb 12oz and West Linton A/C took 16 fish for 36lb 10oz.
The favourite fly list included the Daddylonglegs, Bibio Hopper, Bibio, Sedge Muddler, Hoppers and Sedgehogs and the best areas were the north shore and the middle of the fishery.

On the individual front Peter Ward from Falkirk kept 11 fish weighing 27lb 8oz, Andrew Carrie (Kilmarnock) 9 fish weighing 23lb 8oz, John Banner & Eric Birrell (Sauchie) 7 for 19lb, Paul Clark & Tom Buchanan (Glasgow) kept 12 fish weighing 30lb 8oz and Alex Galloway (Tillicoultry) had 8 fish for 33lb 1oz.
On the club front Tayside Police A/C kept 8 fish weighing 20lb 4oz, Falkirk F/C 14 fish weighing 33lb 1oz, Stirling Castle A/C kept 27 fish for 70lb, Methil A/C kept 6 fish weighing 14lb and Linlithgow A/C caught 16 fish for 38lb 4oz. Perth Ex-Servicemen’s A/C kept 13 fish weighing 27lb 4oz, Clydesdale Bank A/C had 44 fish for 89lb 5oz and Burnside A/C kept 3 weighing 7lb.
The top taking flies and lures have included the Kate Maclaren, CDC Hoppers, Muddlers and Dabblers and the best areas are the North Shore and the Dogleg.
Week Ending 8th August 2010
The favourite flies and lures have proved to be the Mini Muddlers, Loch Ordie, Daddylonglegs, Kate Maclaren and various Hoppers whilst the best fishing areas are the Dogleg and the North Shore.
On the individual front Jimmy Hatton (Kelty) & Frank Richardson (Kinross) kept 9 fish weighing 24lb, Donald Graham & Rab Smith (Kinross) 10 for 28lb 4oz, Paul Clark (Glasgow) 12 fish for 26lb 12oz, Mr Hardwick (Edinburgh) 5 fish weighing 12lb 12oz and Jim Ward & Bob Dick (Kirkcaldy) took 6 fish for 13lb 8oz.
The angling clubs were out in force and the IBM F/C kept 37 fish weighing 96lb, Bonnybridge A/C 44 fish weighing 111lb 12oz, Edinburgh Civil Service A/C 10 for 25lb 2oz and released a further 7 and Perth RASC A/C kept 31 fish weighing 75lb 4oz.Tillicoultry A/C took 42 fish weighing 139lb and released a further 18, Glenfarg A/C 3 fish for 11lb 10oz, Caledonian St Andrews A/C kept 6 fish weighing 14lb 8oz and Longannet A/C took 8 fish for 21lb 12oz.
Week Ending 1st August
William Mitchell & Mr Gibson from Inverkeithing kept 12 fish weighing 36lb, Bill Mitchell (Auchterarder) 6 fish for 13lb 8oz, Andy McKean (Dunfermline) 11 for 28lb 8oz, Alex Birrell & John Banner (Sauchie) 10 for 24lb 4oz and Geoff Hainsworth (Alloa) 9 fish weighing 22lb 8oz. Bob Dick & Geoff Hemming from Kinross took 8 fish weighing 23lb 4oz, George Keith (Dunfermline) 6 fish for 15lb 8oz and Neil Picken (Edinburgh) kept 5 fish weighing 14lb.
On the club front Canmore A/C kept 16 fish weighing 41lb, Tayside Police A/C 12 fish weighing 30lb 8oz, Vesuvius A/C 40 fish for 103lb 4oz and the Last Cast A/C kept 20 fish weighing 52lb 5oz. Denny & District A/C caught 18 fish for 40lb 15oz and Kennoway Fly Only F/C kept 9 fish weighing 22lb.
As far as ‘what’s catching’ is concerned the Muddlers, Blobs, Black Hopper, Daddylonglegs. Kate McLaren and the Black Pennell are all worth a swim and again all areas of the loch are fishing well.
Week Ending 25th July 2010
All areas continue to fish well with the favourite patterns including the Muddler, Damsel, Kate McLaren, Daddylonglegs, CDC Hoppers and Heather Flies.
Dave Cormack from Perth managed 6 fish weighing 14lb 6oz, Mr Proudfoot & Party (Leslie) kept 10 fish weighing 22lb 8oz, Mike Piper (Edinburgh) 7 for 17lb 12oz and Alex Galloway (Tillicoultry) 7 for 19lb. George Keith from Dunfermline had 5 fish for 12lb 8oz, William Mitchell & John Gibson (Inverkeithing) 9 fish weighing 25lb 4oz and Jim Ward (Kirkcaldy) 8 fish weighing 22lb.
On the angling club front Alexanders FFC kept 49 fish weighing 126lb 4oz, St Serf Ladies A/C 10 fish weighing 21lb, Fife Constabulary A/C 18 fish weighing 40lb 4oz and Kinross Ex-Servicemen’s A/C caught 12 fish for 31lb 4oz.

All areas of the fishery are doing well and on the individual front Sue Bourne from Perth kept 7 fish weighing 18lb, Kenny MacMillan (Perth) 6 for 15lb 8oz, Bob Dick (Kinross) 10 fish for 23lb 8oz, Jim Flockhart (Darvel) 5 weighing 10lb 8oz and Mark Sturrock (Crossford) had 5 fish weighing 11lb 2oz.
The clubs were out in force again with the Perthshire F/C keeping 17 fish weighing 37lb, Milngavie A/C 23 for 58lb 8oz, Scottish Security Association A/C 7 weighing 17lb 4oz, Aberdour Angling Association kept 28 fish weighing 65lb 4oz and Weir Pumps A/C 5 fish weighing 13lb 8oz. Brax A/C kept 8 fish weighing 18lb 6oz, Helensburgh Neptune Game F/C 17 fish 43lb, Edinburgh Civil Service A/C 7 fish weighing 16lb 12oz, Kelty Artisans 15 fish for 35lb 12oz and Heriots F/P A/C kept 12 fish weighing 25lb 8oz and released a further 11. Dollar A/C 11 fish weighing 24lb and Dunfermline Railway Club A/C 10 fish weighing 20lb 14oz.
The top taking flies and lures included the Black Muddler, Daddylonglegs, Blobs, Kate Maclaren and CDC Hoppers.

areas are fishing well and on the individual front John Banner from Sauchie kept 9 fish weighing 19lb 2oz, Ian McMaster (Stenhousemuir) 6 for 14lb, Donald Graham & Richard Locke (Kelty) 7 for 18lb 2oz and Bob Dick & Geoff Hemmings (Kinross) kept 9 fish weighing 22lb 8oz.
The clubs were well represented and those doing well included the Edinburgh Walton A/C who 27 fish weighing 60lb 5oz, Kelty Artisans 26 for 59lb 13oz, St Serfs Ladies 13 for 28lb 9oz, Tap Shop A/C 22 for 41lb, Linden FFC 30 for 74lb 4oz and Stanley & District A/C kept 16 fish weighing 34lb 8oz. The best performing flies and lures included Muddlers, Kate Maclaren, Daddylonglegs, CDC Hoppers and the Yellow Dancer.
4th July 2010
All areas are fishing well right now whilst the Daddylonglegs, CDC Hoppers, Muddlers and Dabblers are the best flies. On the individual front Bob Dick & Geoff Hemmings from Kinross kept 12 fish weighing 30lb and released a further 10, Ian McMaster & Dave Dunn (Strathkinnes) 12 for 27lb, George Keith & Tam Langdown (Dunfermline) 7 for 15lb 8oz and Dave Gonsales & Jim Watson (Glenrothes) kept 6 fish weighing 13lb 8oz. Peter Ward from Falkirk had 11 fish for 24lb 8oz, Tom Murray (Perth) 6 for 14lb and released 3, John Wilson (Dunfermline) 5 for 11lb 8oz and Jim Ward (Kirkcaldy) kept 6 fish weighing 14lb 8oz.
The angling clubs also did well with Catch 22 A/C keeping 31 fish weighing 66lb 12oz, Grangemouth A/C 29 fish for 65lb 8oz and the Priory A/C kept 34 fish weighing 75lb.
28th June 2010
All areas of the fishery are performing and with the favourite flies and lures being the CDC Hopper, Daddylonglegs, Bibio Hopper, Kate Maclaren, Muddlers and the Coral Dancer.
On the individual front Johnny McCall from Dollar kept 7 fish weighing 14lb 8oz, Bill Moonie (Stirling) 9 fish for 20lb, Dave Gonzales (Auchtermuchty) 9 for 21lb 4oz and Alex Galloway (Tillicoultry) kept 6 fish for 13lb 12oz. Les Ferren from Kelty had 11 fish weighing 21lb 4oz and George Keith (Dunfermline) kept 12 fish weighing 24lb.
The clubs were out in force again with the Aberdour Angling Association keeping 57 fish weighing 123lb, Lothian & Borders Police A/C 40 fish for 92lb 12oz, Tayside Police A/C 6 for 12lb 8oz and Cowdenbeath & District A/C kept 63 fish weighing 131lb. Perth Ex-Servicemen’s A/C took 3 fish for 8lb, Tullibole A/C 30 for 61lb 14oz, Clatto & Stratheden A/C 24 fish for 54lb 8oz, Leslie Llanilar A/C 32 fish weighing 70lb 13oz and Taverners A/C kept 2 fish weighing 5lb 8oz.

All areas are fishing well at present and the best flies have been the CDC Hopper, Pearly Cormorant, Leggy Bloodworm, Muddler, Daddylonglegs and the Bibio Hopper.
The clubs again have been out in force with Balbeggie A/C keeping 32 fish weighing 68lb 9oz, Falkirk Municipal A/C 58 fish for 120lb 1oz, The Trout Anglers Club 26 for 56lb 8oz, Kelty Artisans 8 fish weighing 18lb 12oz and Morton A/C 12 fish for 33lb 2oz. Tayside Police A/C kept 5 fish weighing 8lb 4oz, Doune A/C 9 for 17lb 8oz, Carron Bridge A/C 5 fish for 11lb 8oz and Seafield A/C kept 7 fish weighing 16lb. Kelty Artisans managed 11 fish for 25lb 8oz, North Berwick A/C 24 for 48lb 10oz, Roslin British Legion F/C kept 13 fish weighing 32lb 8oz and Edinburgh Masonic A/C took 6 fish for 11lb 8oz.
13th June 2010
On the club front Dundee A/C kept 18 fish weighing 39lb 15oz, Grizzle Cats A/C 34 for 71lb and released a further 61, Perthshire F/C 6 for and Balfour A/C kept 15 fish weighing 31lb 12oz. Leslie & Glenrothes A/C took 21 fish for 43lb 4oz, Ferranti A/C had 6 for 12lb 8oz, Heriot FP A/C 15 fish for 30lb 5oz and released a further 22 and Tillicoultry A/C kept 21 fish weighing 51lb. Glasgow Academicals A/C managed 3 fish totalling 7lb 4oz and Tullibody Inn A/C had 7 fish weighing 17lb.
The best flies and lures have been the Daddy Longlegs, Kate Maclaren, Sedgehog, Muddler, Bibio, Bibio Hopper and CDC Hoppers and all areas of the fishery are performing well.
30th May 2010
All areas of the fishery are performing well and the top taking flies and lures have included the Bibio Hopper, Olive Cormorant, Pearly Cormorant and the Kate McLaren.
The clubs have been out in force and Bothwell & Blantyre A/C kept 68 fish weighing 133lb 5oz, Wellington A/C 46 fish for 105lb, Edinburgh Civil Service A/C 20 fish for 40lb 12oz and Central Scotland Police A/C kept 15 fish weighing 32lb. Edinburgh Walton A/C had 13 fish for 29lb 1oz, District Priory of Forth Valley 8 fish weighing 19lb, Canmore A/C took fish for 6lb 12oz and Caledonian St Andrews A/C kept 1 fish weighing 2lb 4oz.
Week Ending 16th May 2010
On the club front Balfour A/C kept 14 fish weighing 31lb 8oz, Ferranti A/C had 10 fish for 19lb 12oz, Linwood A/C managed 3 fish weighing 6lb 8oz and the Grizzle Cats A/C took 24 fish for 48lb. Monifieth Trout A/C kept 13 fish weighing 25lb 8oz and Kelty Artisans had 5 fish for 12lb 12oz.
The top taking flies proved to be the Leggy Bloodworm, Kate Maclaren, Fritz Olive Damsel, Coral Dancer & Yellow Dancer and the best fishing area was on the north shore from the start of the dogleg to the dam wall.

The top taking flies last week included the Bloodworm, Fritz Olive Damsel and the Red Diawl Bach whilst the best fishing area was on the south shore from Smithscleuch Burn to the dam wall.
On the individual front William Brown & James Hunter from High Valleyfield kept 12 fish weighing 31lb 8oz, Colin Low (Auchterarder) 6 for 14lb 8oz, Ronnie Stewart (Tullibody) 5 for 12lb 14oz, Gregor Sharp (Dunfermline) 4 for 10lb and Gibby Bruce (Falkirk) kept 4 fish weighing 10lb 8oz. Robert Wilson from Dunfermline had 5 fish for 12lb 8oz, Adam Lewis (Kinross) 3 for 6lb 8oz, Ronnie Stewart (Alva) 5 for 12lb 4oz and Tommy Tinlin (Airth) kept 4 fish weighing 10lb. Jimmy Bell from Airth had 4 fish for 10lb and John Wilson (Dunfermline) kept 4 fish weighing 8lb 4oz.
The angling clubs also did well with the Bank of Scotland A/C taking 59 fish for 155lb 5oz, Weir Pumps A/C kept 9 fish weighing 26lb and the Taverners A/C had 9 fish for 22lb 12oz.
Week Ending 28th March 2010
The best areas last week were from Smithscleuch Burn down to the Dam Wall on the south shore where the best taking patterns proved to be the Leggy Bloodworm, Yellow and Coral Dancers, Crazy Cat, Olive Fritz Damsel and the Red Diawl Bach.
On the individual front Magnus Gloak from Perth kept 12 fish weighing 28lb 8oz, Alex Cormack (Stenhousemuir) 6 for 17lb 8oz, Bill Wiseman (Dollar) 6 for 14lb and released 1 and Robert Wilson (Dunfermline) kept 5 fish weighing 11lb 14oz. Robert Westwater from Glasgow caught 2 blue trout for 5lbs 8oz and released 12 rainbows, Bill Brennan (Cupar) 4 for 11lb, Ian Chalmers (Falkland) 4 for 10lb and William Brown (High Valleyfield) kept 4 fish weighing 10lb and released 2.
Week Ending 21st March 2010
At last the fishery is up and running but with the water temperature being so cold the fish are in no mood to chase fast moving flies and the best methods seem to be a very slow retrieve or fishing static buzzers. The top flies have been the Buzzers, Fritz Damsel, Leggy Bloodworm, Coral Dancer and the Yellow Dancer whilst the best fishing areas have been the south shore from Smithscleuch burn to the dam wall.
Featuring amongst the best catches were Stuart & Pete Henry from Dunfermline who kept 7 fish weighing 17lb, Hamish Fulton (Menstrie) 2 for 6lb and released a further 7 – best fish a 3lb Blue Trout, Ken Hutchison (Alloa) 2 for 5lbs and Alex Galloway (Tillicoultry|) kept 2 fish weighing 4lb. Jim Donnelly from Tullibody had 2 fish weighing 5lb 8oz and released 12, Andy McCreary (Dunfermline) 3 for 7lb, Allan Hawthorne (Inverkeithing) kept 2 fish weighing 6lb and released 4 and Ronnie Turnbull (Alva) had 3 fish for 6lb and released 3. Gary Bryant from Denny bagged 3 fish for 8lb 4oz, John Philliban (Stirling) 2 for 5lb 8oz, Robert Westwater (Glasgow) 2 for 4lb 8oz and released 3 and Ronnie Stewart (Alva) kept 4 fish weighing 9lb.
Week Ending 14th March 2010
After a number of postponements due to the heavy snow and severe icing over of the water it is planned to get the fishery up and running for the 2010 season next Saturday, 20th March.
At the start of the season it’s the usual Coral & Yellow Dancers, Nomads, Crazy Cats etc which are the most successful patterns but a number of the Frandy regulars fish buzzers from the start of the season right through to the end and catch just as many fish if not more!
The South shore from the fishery lodge to the dam wall is usually the most productive drift at the start of the season.
Week Ending 7th March 2010
Due to the horrific weather conditions resulting in the fishery being completely frozen over and access still difficult the opening planned for last weekend was cancelled yet again but provided there is a decent thaw throughout this week it should open this coming Saturday – the 13th of March.
At the start of the season it’s the usual Coral & Yellow Dancers, Nomads, Crazy Cats etc which are the most successful patterns but a number of the Frandy regulars fish buzzers from the start of the season right through to the end and catch just as many fish if not more!

The fishery gets the 2010 underway this coming Saturday the 27th February after an initial stocking of 2lb plus fighting fit rainbows.
At the start of the season it’s the usual Coral & Yellow Dancers, Nomads, Crazy Cats etc which are the most successful patterns but a number of the Frandy regulars fish buzzers from the start of the season right through to the end and catch just as many fish if not more!
The South shore from the fishery lodge to the dam wall is usually the most productive drift at the start of the season.
NOTE. At the time of writing – Monday 22nd February – there is a bit of ice about at Frandy so anglers are advised to phone Ken on 01259 891352 to check up on the conditions.

John Banner from Sauchie kept 4 fish weighing a total of 12lb 4oz, Geoff Thomson (Blackford) 4 for 8lb, Tam Burt (Edinburgh) 6 for 13lb 12oz and Gordon Birrell (Kincardine) took 5 fish weighing 10lb. Robert Pedan from Kelty had 5 fish weighing a total of 11lb 8oz, Alex Brunton (Livingston) 3 for 7lb 4oz, Brian Hunter (Dunfermline) 4 for 8lb 4oz, Harry Carson (Kirkintilloch) 3 for 7lb, Stu Henry (Dunfermline) 3 for 7lb and Colin Low (Auchterarder) kept 5 fish weighing a total of 10lb 4oz.
On the club front Shell Mossmorran A/C kept 13 fish weighing a total of 29lb 12oz, Dollar A/C 6 for 14lb 8oz and St Serf Ladies A/C caught 6 fish weighing 13lb 4oz.
All areas of the loch are fishing and well and the top taking flies have included the Dunkeld, Snatchers, Coral & Yellow Dancers and the Cats Whisker.
Week Ending 13th Sept 2009
Neil Barrett from Edinburgh kept 4 fish weighing a total of 8lb, John McFadzean (Gateside) 3 for 5lb 8oz, G Hemmings (Kinross) 5 for 11lb 4oz and Colin Adams ( Windygates) had 5 fish weighing 11lb 8oz. Alex Prentice from Clackmannan caught kept 2 fish weighing a total of 5lb 4oz, Robert Pedan (Kelty) 5 for 9lb 8oz and John Hill (Linwood) kept 8 fish weighing a total of 16lb.
On the club front West of Scotland A/C kept 9 fish weighing a total of 18lb 1oz, Methil A/C 18 for 38lb 12oz, Kinglassie A/C took 13 fish for 27lb 8oz. Linwood F/C kept 3 fish weighing a total of 8lb and the Gulls Nest A/C had 4 fish weighing a total of 8lb. Aberfeldy A/C took 7 fish weighing a total of 18lb and Carrongrove A/C managed 10 for 22lb 8oz.
The best taking flies have proved to be Snatchers, Bibio, CDC Hoppers, Buzzers and all areas of the fishery are doing well.
Week Ending 7th Sept 2009
Again all areas of the fishery have fished well with the best flies being the Mini Muddler, Kate Maclaren and the Snatcher. Alastair MacMillan from Comrie kept 3 fish weighing a total of 6lb, B Dick & G Hemmings (Kinross) 4 fish for 7lb 12oz, Bill Ramage (Tillicoultry) 4 for 8lb 8oz and Raymond Pirrie (Tillicoultry) caught and released 5. Robert Paterson from (Stirling) had 2 fish weighing 5lb and released 4, William Johnson (Stirling) 2 for 5lb and released 2, Ronnie Stewart (Alva) kept 2 fish for 4lb 4oz and Robert Westwater (Glasgow) 2 for 4lb 4oz and released 6. Murray Dunan from (Auchterarder) took 2 fish weighing a total of 5lb and released 2, George Keith (Dunfermline) 5 for 11lb and Stu Henry (Dunfermline) kept 3 fish weighing a total of 7lb.
On the club front Penicuik A/C kept 15 fish weighing a total of 30lb 5oz, West Lothian Flydressers 14 for 32lb 4oz, Dunfermline Artisans had 14 fish weighing 30lb 13oz and the ABC&D A/C kept 14 fish weighing a total of 29lb 13oz.
Week Ending 31st August 2009
All areas of the fishery are performing well at the present time and the best fly patterns have proved to be the Red Diawl Bach, Bibio Hopper, Bibio, Kate Maclaren and various Muddlers.
Jim Flockhart (Ayr) and company kept 15 fish weighing a total of 31lb 14oz. James Little & Frank Corbett ( Prestwick) fishing on a sporting ticket caught and released 9, Alex Prentice (Clackmannan) caught and released 5 and Robert Pedan (Kelty) kept 4 fish weighing a total of 8lb and released 4.
On the club front Dunfermline A/C kept 7 fish weighing a total of 16lb 4oz, Strathclyde Police A/C 30 for 58lb 3oz, Phoenix A/C 10 for 19lb 11oz, Dalzell A/C kept 11 fish for 23lb 13oz and the Bank of Scotland A/C kept 10 fish weighing a total of 22lb 4oz. Brax A/C had 4 fish for 8lb 12oz, Kinross Ex – Servicemen’s A/C kept 19 fish weighing a total of 39lb, Tullibole A/C 23 fish for 47lb 4oz and the Thistle A/C kept 19 fish weighing a total of 39lb 4oz.

All areas of the fishery are doing well and the top taking flies and lures have included the Sedgehog, Muddlers, Daddy longlegs, CDC Hoppers and Bibio Hoppers.

Mr. Wiseman from Dollar bagged 6 fish weighing a total of 13lb 8oz, G. Henderson (Uddingston) 5 fish for 11lb 8oz, J Donnelly (Tullibody) 2 fish for 11lb – best a cracker of 8lb 4oz and J Stewart (Uddingston) kept 5 fish weighing a total of 10lb 4oz.
The fishery opens for 2009 business on Saturday 28th February when most anglers will prefer to fish from the bank at the beginning of the season mainly to keep a tad warmer as it can get a bit cold high in the Ochill Hills at this time.
The usual hotspots are likely to be from the start of the dogleg to the dam wall on the south shore. The main 'killer' flies and lures will include the likes of the Dancer, Damsel Nymph, Booby Nymph and of course the good old Cat’s Whisker. The vast majority of fish caught at the beginning of the season are on an intermediate line.

All areas of the loch are fishing well and the best flies and lures have been the CDC Hopper, Kate Maclaren, Black Spiders and various versions of the Damsel Nymph.

H Fulton from Menstrie caught 2 fish weighing a total of 6lb 12oz and G Horne (Perth) 2 fish weighing a total of 4lb 4oz.
All areas of the loch are fishing well and the best flies and lures have been the CDC Hopper, Kate Maclaren, Black Spiders and various versions of the Damsel Nymph.
