Bank House Fishery, Caton

Bank House Fishery is a rather picturesque place to while away a few hours in pursuit of a trout or two. This 2.5 acre fishery is located on the side of a hill above a former example of one of the North West's 'dark Satanic mills'. Not happy with having a former water supply for't mill the Dobsons who have owned the fishery for 30 years have added islands and rhododendrons to create the kind of place where you can enjoy the wild life and scenery.

Adjacent to the fishery is a trout rearing facility which adds provenance to the fish stocked there. Managers of Stocks Reservoir and with fishing on the Skelton and Halton beats of the Lune it's self Bank House are busy beavers.

For a small fishery Bank House offers lots of nooks and crannies to fish, holding the anglers interest. I'd love to have a go here in a month on two when fly life if is high and fish are jumping. With all of the trees and bushes the fish will have a smorgasbord of aquatic and terrestrial fly life to chose from. Fun with the nymph and dry fly.

Fishing on the day was a bit dour, just my luck, but some tidy specimens in the 2 to 4lb range were taken on black buzzers and tadploes.

Just a few miles off Junction 34 on the M6, up the A 683 you arrive in Caton in the Lune Valley. Bank House Fishery is located on the left as you enter Caton, just look for the sign post. Given the quality surroundings ticket prices are very reasonable. There is a tackle shop, toilets on site and good access all round the fishery.

Next time you are on the M6 and feel like a break,have a rod on board, nip of at junction 34 and relax. Probably cost you less than the price of a service station coffee and a bun and lots more fun!
