A Father And Son Combo Take Up Fishing With A Bang

Guy McPhee and his son Rohan have a magical start to their first fishing season

Rohan McPhee with his 5.5lb pike from VenacharFishing is nothing if not about companionship and families getting together in the camaraderie and friendly competitiveness that angling can offer.

The old angling sage, well aging, Bruce Sandison has shared his family exploits with us over many years in which he often came out third in a two sided battle of skills and wills with his wife and siblings.

In June of this year Guy Mcphee from Falkirk and his son Rohan, decided to take up the art of the angle pursuing pike on Loch Venachar and the Forth and Clyde Canal. Their exploits and catches only go to show what a father and son combo can achieve. Over three trips to Loch Venachar they have managed to bag some excellent fish proving that pike fishing in Scotland is as good as you get.

Rohan, just 8 years of age, has had a fish of 8lbs and the fish of 5.5lbs pictured above. Guy has topped the tree with fish of 18 and 20lbs 4ozs , not bad for beginners. Guy recons the 18lb fish was the better fighter. Over 60lb of fish between the two of them since June!

Well done the McPhees, here's hoping the winter pike will deliver the promise of tough hard fighting monsters of the deep. Of course the challenge for Rohan is to catch a fish bigger than himself. If you do wee fella, send me the picture and you will go front page news.
