Orchill Loch Coarse Fishery

9th October 2011

Sunday was the final match of the year for the Coarse Fishing with the Federation League Champion of Champions fighting it out to win the Silver Cup and a fantastic pole donated very generously by Daiwa as the prize for the champion. This incredibly close fought match was won by David Cocoran with a great catch of 63lbs 4oz, John Parella came second with 61lbs 12oz and James Woodrow was third with 61lbs 8oz – how close can you get. John Baird Jnr. Took fourth place with 55lbs 15oz.

11th September 2011

The Sunday Sweep was won by Mark Cook with a great basket weighing in at 69lbs 15oz. David Mathew was second with 49lbs 14oz and Neil Chapman came third with 37lbs. Auchterarder angler, Mark Gleave, had a superb 80lb catch of mixed fish from the Midton Lake.

4th September 2011

The Snake and Midton are still fishing well with a wide variety of baits, as usual everyone to their own favourite mix. On Sunday the Over 50's Match was fished on the Snake and was won by John Perella from Magiscroft with a great catch weighing 60lbs 5oz, Tom Laurieston from Magiscroft came second with 35lbs 11oz, Alec Napier, Monklands, was third with  25lbs 9oz and 4th place went to Allan Pellow from Orchill Central with 25lbs 3oz.

28th August 2011

The Snake and Midton have been fishing very well with plenty of good catches with a wide variety of bait being used.   Hopefully the 10 days we have of summer is not over now as it was a lot cooler at the weekend.

The 7th Match of the Orchill Summer Series was fished on Sunday in cold conditions and the event was won by Davy Mathews with a good catch weighing in at 48lbs 12oz. Mark Cook was second with 45lbs 8oz, 3rd place went to Jim Hillhouse with 40lbs 3oz, 4th place was bagged by John Baird Snr with 36lbs 5oz and 5th place was taken by David McAuley with 33lbs. Also doing well in the competition was Brian Docherty 31lbs 4oz, Neil Chapman  27lbs  10oz,  Drew McLuskey 24lbs 6oz,  Ian Whitson  23lbs 6oz and Paul Bryson 21lbs 3oz.

The coarse fishing has been excellent on both waters with the warmer weather just now helping things along nicely. On Sunday the sweep on the Snake was won by Paul Joyce from Kirkintilloch who had a very good catch of 86 lbs.

It was a very wet day on Sunday for the Daiwa sponsored Orchill Open match with 36 anglers taking part. Fishing tackle giant Daiwa gave very good prizes which were very much appreciated by the anglers taking part.  The event was very narrowly won by Grant Clark from Orchill by one with 50lbs 12oz from Tommy Laurieson also from the Orchill club who weighed in at 50lbs 11oz. Third place went to  Steph Hunter from Orchill with 42lbs, Neil Chapman, Orchill, was fourth with 38lbs 15oz and fifth place went to Mark Cook from Orchill with 32lbs 9oz. Also doing well was Frank Smith with 31lbs 1oz, Nigel Foulds 30lbs 12oz, Allan Pellow 30lbs 4oz and John Callaghan 28lbs 13oz.

Yesterday 21 anglers took part in the Over 50's Open Match that was held on the Snake Lake and the winner was Matt Dunn from Lanark who had a great basket weighing in at6 60lbs 2oz. Bryan Hewitt  from Hamilton was second with 50lbs 2oz, Davy Smith, Cumbernauld, came third with 40lbs 2oz and Tommy Laurieston, Cumbernauld, took fourth place with 33lbs 9oz. Also doing well was Brian Docherty, Cumbernauld, 32lbs 15oz, Jim Hillhouse,   Kirkintilloch, 32lbs 14oz, Colin Kerr, Cumbernauld, 31lbs 3oz, Bill Hamilton,  Glasgow, 27lbs 11oz,  John Perella, Errol, 25lbs 8oz and Allan Pellow, Bearsden, 24lbs 12oz.

24th July 2011

The match on the Snake on Sunday was the Orchill Central Coarse Angling Club with 21 anglers taking part. The match was won by Brian Docherty Snr. With 47lbs 7oz on pellet, Jim Jones was second with 46lbs, Neil Chapman came third with 42lbs 6oz and fourth place went to Steph Hunter with 42lbs 5oz. Also doing well was Grant Clark with 28lbs 7oz, Brian Hewitt 27lbs 7oz, George Yardley 21lbs 7oz, Brian Docherty Jnr. 19lbs 9oz, Tony Ball 18lbs 9oz and Paul Joyce 17lbs 9oz.

After a fairly nice week of weather there was sun and very heavy showers on Sunday for the 6th Orchill Summer Series Match. 31 anglers took part and the event was won by Davey McGregor from the Monklands and Orchill Central clubs who had a great basket weighing 43lbs 2oz. John Callaghan from Orchill Central was second with 40lbs 8oz, Davey  McAulley, Monklands, was third with 39lbs 10z and fourth place went to John Baird Jnr. From Magiscroft with 38lbs 3oz.Also doing well were Colin Skeel 31lbs 13oz, Jim Jones, Magiscroft & Orchill Central 31lbs 10oz, Paul Bryson, Lanarkshire, 30lbs 5oz and Bobby Marshall, Magiscroft & Orchill Central, 26lbs 3oz. Drew McLuskey, Orchill Central, 25lbs 3oz and Davey Mathews, Orchill Central, 25lbs 10z.

Six of the Elgin Marvels travelled down to have a match and all enjoyed a good day.The heaviest bag was Tony Hunt with 76lbs, 2nd Alec Christie 41lbs and 3rd John O'Brien 25lbs 8oz.

With the warmer weather the coarse fishing is much better with some good fish being caught on Midton and the Snake.

On Saturday Barry Morgan had a personal best with a 16lbs 8oz mirror on Midton. The Orchill Series was fished yesterday with 38 anglers taking part in perfect conditions, hot and sunny with no wind. Davey McAuley was the winner with  52lbs 7oz, Mark Cook  from Orchill Central was second with 50lbs 13oz, Bobby Marshall      Orchill Central came third with 36lbs 7oz and fourth place was taken by James Woodrow from Magiscroft &OC with 36lbs. Also doing well in the competition was Ian Whitson from Monklands with 32lbs 8oz, Paul Bryson, Lanark, 32lbs 3oz, Paul Joyce, Orchill Central, 31lbs 1oz, Barry Morgan, Dunfermline, 29lbs 10oz and Drew McLusky, Orchill Central, 27lbs 12oz.

Week Ending 19th June 2011

The coarse fishery has been fishing well this week with a lot of fish being caught on both waters with a variety of baits. David Heron from Inverurie had a 20lb mirror and an 11lb mirror and a few more good fish on Midton.

On Sunday the third match of the Orchill series was fished with the falling results:-

 James Woodrow from the Magiscroft and Orchill Central Clubs was the winner with 46lbs 6oz, Colin Skeel from Magiscroft came second with 39lbs 6oz and Paul Joyce from Orchill Central was third with 34lbs. Also doing well in the event was Neil Chapman 32lbs 4oz, Jim Hillhouse 30lbs 3oz, Douglas Mail 26lbs 10oz, John Baird Jnr  26lbs 8oz, Tony Ball 24lbs 8oz, David Cocoran 24lbs 6oz and Barry Morgan 24lbs 1oz.

Unfortunately the overnight grass frost has slowed up the catching of the fish up at the coarse as these fish prefer warmer water.   Hopefully, summer will come soon.

Last Sunday the Scottish Federation had a match on the Snake Lake with 28 anglers taking part. The winner was Colin Hart with 60lbs 14oz, Stephen McAveny came second with 48lbs and Stuart Dalgleish was third with 42lbs 8oz. On the Club front the results were Magiscroft 11 points, Monklands A 12points and the Crazy Gang  13 points

Week Ending 5th June 2011

The Midton and Snake Lakes have been fishing well with a wide variety of bait. The Orchill Summer Series was fished on the Snake on Sunday when 42 anglers took part with the winner being James Woodrow with a tremendous catch of 84lbs 5oz. Colin Skeel was runner up with  51lbs 10oz, David Cocoran was third with 40lbs 4oz and fourth place was taken by Drew McLusky with 37lbs 9oz.Also doing well were Stef Hunter with 33lbs 7oz, Jim Jones 31lbs 10oz, Colin Hart 31lbs 6oz and Nigel Foulds 31lbs 5oz.

On Sunday Peter Wormole from Bridge of Weir had 24 fish on Midton including two mirrors - one at 17lbs and the smaller at 14 lbs.

Week Ending 31st May 2011

The match on Sunday was again fished in very windy and showery conditions so everyone is hoping that next week-end it is a nice warm sunny day for a change. The match was one by Mark Cook with 36lbs 11oz, Tony Ball came second with 23lbs

11oz, Barry Morgan was third with 21lbs 6oz and fourth place went to Rab Edwards with 19lbs 140z. Also doing well was Jim Jones with 17lbs 3oz, David Mathews, 16lbs, Nigel Foulds 14lbs 2oz and Craig Postlewaite 12lbs 10oz.

Week Ending 22nd May 2011

The first of the Orchill Summer Series was fished last Sunday in rather windy conditions.  40 anglers fished the match and the match was won by Neil Chapman from Orchill Central with 32lbs 12oz from peg 48. Barry Morgan from Dunfermline was second with 31lbs 13oz, Davie Mathews, Orchill Central came third with 27lbs 9oz, Colin Skeel, Magiscroft, took fourth place with 26lbs 5oz and Colin Hart, Magiscroft, was fifth with 24lbs.Sixth place was taken by Mark Cook from Orchill Central with 22lbs 110z, John Baird Jnr., Magiscroft, had 22lbs 3oz and James Woodrow, Orchill Central, was eighth with 21lbs 6oz.

Week Ending 15th May 2011

Both waters are fishing well with a wide variety of baits. Brian McCann from Ruchill fishing on peg 45 on the Snake Lake took 150lbs including carp to 5lbs and a good mixture of other fish on double maggot over ground bait.   On another visit he had 80 lbs. Allan White from  Blackburn had a 15lb 2oz Ghostie and 9-10 others about weighing around the 3 – 5lb mark on pellet from Midton.

The Sunday match was won by Brian Docherty Snr. With 35lbs 10oz, Dave McAulay was second with 34lbs 8oz and Nigel Faulds third with 30lbs 15oz. Dave McGregor was fourth with 26lbs 4oz, Martin Pearson came fifth with 19lbs 9oz and Neil Chapman bagged sixth place with a catch weighing 19lbs 3oz.

Week Ending 8th May 2011

Both the Midton and the Snake Lakes are fishing well with a wide variety of baits which can be bought on site. David Bell and his son 13 year old son Cameron were delighted to catch a good mix of fish weighing 122lbs between including loads of tench on pellet and maggot.  

He match on Sunday was won by James Woodrow with 60lbs, Allan Connelly                 was second with 51lbs, Colin Skeel was third placed with 39lbs 14oz and Brian Docherty fourth with 38lbs 8oz. C Postlewaite took fifth place with 37lbs 14oz and sixth place went to A Taylor who ha 32lbs 3oz.

Week Ending 1st May 2011

The fishing has been good on both the Midton and Snake Lakes with the fish taking a variety of bait. On Sunday the sweep on the Snake was won by Stewart with a catch weighing 45lbs 15oz and James Woodrow was second with 43lbs 14oz. Andy Smith, Cupar had 60lbs of mixed fish on peg 47 on paste, corn and worms, David Horburn, Cupar had 61lbs on peg 45 on pellet, corn and maggot and last but not least Dan Hewins, Falkirk fishing on Midton had an 8lbs 8oz ghostie, a 4lb tench and several more good fish.

Week Ending 24th April 2011

The Midton Lake has started to fish well now and the Snake Lake is also doing very well. Last Monday Jimmy Tripney from Perth had about 50lbs of mixed fish on Midton and beside him Joe Ogilvie from Dundee had about 70lbs of mostly tench with several weighing around the 6lb mark.   William McNeil from Grangemouth also had around 50lbs of mixed fish on Midton, Frank Lurg from Dundee had 50lbs of mixed fish on the Snake on peg 50, Tony Rodgers from Dunfermline had 50lbs of carp and silvers on the Snake on pellet and corn and Tom Bates from Aberfoyle had 33lbs of carp on the Snake.

Sunday’s sweep on the Snake Lake was won by Colin Skeel with 48lbs 12oz, 2nd Neil Chapman with 45lbs, 3rd Brian Docherty Jnr with 41lbs 9oz and 4th Brian Docherty Snr with 39lbs 9 oz.

Week Ending 17th April 2011

There have been a lot of good catches on the Snake and Midton this week with pellets mixed with various ground bait doing well. Young Ryan Brown from Warrington had several good day's fishing on the snake and on his last day he caught 43 fish including a barbel which he was delighted with. Mark Gleave from Auchterarder had another good day catching 70lbs on the Snake with the pole. On Sunday Sandy McKay from Bellshill had a very good day catching 100lbs on the Snake. Bill Millar, Glasgow, had 10 carp on Midton and Stuart Baird, Auchterarder, had 14 carp on Midton.

Last week’s open match was won by Barry Morgan with 85lbs 7oz, Jim Hillhouse came second with 51lbs 110z and third place was taken by Brian Docherty Snr. With a 44lbs 3oz basket. Martin Pearson was 4th with 40lbs 12oz, Stewart Rae came 5th with 38lbs 7oz and Brian Docherty Jnr. was 6th with 33lbs 11oz.

Week Ending 10th April 2011

The warm weather on Sunday was great for the 31 man sweep on the Snake Lake that resulted in 769lbs of fish being weighed in – a great average of 25lbs per angler. The winner today was Booby Marshall +from Magiscroft with 72lbs 7oz of mainly carp taken on maggots and pellets from peg 32. Brian Docherty Jnr from Magiscroft was second with 63lbs 12oz,  and Neil Chapman from Orchill Central was third placed with 61lbs 5oz. There have been a lot of good catches last week-end during the lovely weather with Allan Colon had taking 76lbs on peg 45 on the Snake and Jim Duncan managed 47lbs.

Week Ending Sunday, 27 March, 2011

Allan Colon from Tranent had a fantastic day session catching 110lbs of mixed fish on the Snake all on pellet and this was an amazing catch for so early in the year and the weight was verified by several others so very well done Allan. The Midton Lake is slowly warming up and Mark Wilson from Crieff had had a personal best catching a 13lb mirror and a 6lb common carp.
The Sunday matches had a bit of a bad start with a touch of frost on the water first thing but when the sun came out it was a lovely day and plenty of fish were caught.
Orchill Central CAC had their first Summer League match and the winner was Brian Docherty with 36lbs 8oz, Jim Jones came second with 31lbs 9oz and Colin McKerrow was third with 27lbs 110z.
Edinburgh and Lothian Carp Association also had a good first day and their competition was won by Andy Roberts with a catch of 45lbs 8oz, Tony Hayler was second with 35lbs and third place went to Jimmy McAlinden with 27lbs 8oz.

Week Ending Sunday, 20 March, 2011

There has been a lot of fish being caught on the Snake on pellets, maggots and worms. Derek Brady from Glasgow on Thursday had 65lbs of mostly carp on peg 6,Mark Geave, Auchterarder had 38lbs of carp and silvers on peg 50,Michael McEwan, East Kilbride had 20 carp and 1 barbell and on Sunday Allan Colan, Tranent caught 32lbs of carp and silvers.

In Tony Ball’s opening match of the season Barry Morgan emerged the winner with 58lbs 4oz, Colin Kerr came second with 39lbs 3oz and Jim Jones was third with 33lbs 9oz

Week Ending Sunday, 27 February, 2011

The Snake Lake started to fish this week-end with several anglers catching a lot of silver fish with a few also catching carp.   It is good to see that fish have survived the harsh long winter. Ian Stewart from Coatbridge had 50 mixed fish on Saturday with maggot, Ian Purvis from Burntisland had a 7lb 8oz mirror carp along with some chub and barbell and young, keen angler, Harvey Sleeman from Alva had 8 carp and several other fish

Unfortunately there is still ice on the coarse loch but if the forecast for much milder weather is correct then it should not be too long before fishing is back on stream again

Week Ending 2nd October 2010

The coarse fishery will be open all winter weather permitting but this will be the last report for this year. The forum will keep up to date with how it is fishing as there is of course the roach, bream, chub and barbel in the Snake to fish for during the winter.

On Sunday RAF Leuchars had a small match with Paul Carrhart winning with 22 lbs 8 oz and Dave Horban was second with 21lbs 13 oz. Jim Duncan from Stirling did well last Monday with 62lbs on peg 28 on the Snake and on Sunday he had 35 lbs from peg 20. Barry Morgan from Dunfermline had a great day on Midton catching 12 carp and 3 crucians.

Week Ending 26th September 2010

It was a lovely day on Saturday for the County Championship match that was won by Mark Cook with 33 lbs 11 oz from Peg 32. James Woodrow on Peg 28 was second with 32lbs 2oz, Colin Skeel came third with 24lbs 10oz from Peg 26, third place went to Colin Kerr with 22lbs 14oz from Peg 34 and Ian Whitson on Peg 30 took fourth place with a bag of 20 lbs 10 oz.

On Thursday Tony Ball had a great day's fishing catching 70 lbs of carp, chub and tench, Mark Gleave from Auchterarder had another good day catching 45 lbs of mixed fish and Allan Colon, Tranent, had a good day on Sunday catching 70 lbs of carp, 1 at 7 lbs, 2 at 6 lbs and 1 at 5 lbs on peg 45.

Week Ending 19th September 2010

There was no wind and the rain stayed off for the usual Sunday match but this made the fishing harder when it was dead calm. The winner was Tony Ball with 28lbs, Ritchie Verne came second with 21lbs and third place went to Brian Docherty with 19lbs.

Mark Gleave from Auchterarder had a good day catching 50 lbs of mostly carp and 1 barbel, Andrew Fernie, Kinglassie had a beautiful 12 lb mirror carp on Midton on 4 mm pellet and on Saturday Jim Duncan from Stirling had 64 lbs of carp on peg 19 on 8 mm pellet. Geoff Monks from Kirkcaldy had a 8 lb mirror carp on Midton and the County Championship Match is now going to be this Saturday 25th September, as it was put back a week because of other matches last week-end.

Week Ending 12th September 2010

The Central Scotland Championship two day competition was held last week end and the winners were:-  1st Jim Hillhouse with 53lbs 10oz, Alan Connolly was second with  50 lbs 14 oz and Jim Jones was third placed with 36lbs 10oz. Tony Ball's Sunday sweep was won by Drew McLuskie with 29 lbs 8 oz, second place went to Tony Ball with 29lbs, third place sent to David Mathew with 16 lbs 4 oz and Brian Docherty took 4th place with 11 lbs 6 oz.

Week Ending 5th September 2010

Sunday was the final of the Orchill Summer Series when the angler with the most points from 5 out of the 6 matches wins. There was a very strong east wind most of the time which died away slightly later in the afternoon. Thanks go to Preston Innovations, J B Angling and Drennan who supported this event with some very good prizes.

The match was won by Ian Whitson with 49 lbs 6 oz, Steff Hunter was second with 44 lbs 5 oz and third place went to Colin Hart with 36 lbs 9 oz. The overall winner of the Orchill Summer Series was Derek Brady with 47 points (3 wins) second was Colin Hart with 47 points (2 wins), Nigel Faulds was third with 45 points, Ian Whitson took 4th place with 44 points(3 wins) and James Woodrow came 5th with 44 points(2 wins).

Jim Duncan from Stirling on two evening visits had 47 lbs on peg 33 and 64 lbs on peg 20, T. Hunt, Speyside, had 44 lbs of mixed fish and enjoyed a good day on Wednesday and Alex Neil, Tullibody, took 30 mixed bag of fish on Midton

Week Ending 29th August 2010

At the week-end the Central Coarse Anglers had a good week-end staying up at Crieff and fishing here during the day. Drew McLuskey had the heaviest catch on Friday and Saturday with Steph Hunter coming second. Drew's catch on Friday was 34 lbs; Saturday's catch 55 lbs whilst Steph took 32 lbs on Friday and 45 lbs on Saturday.

Drew's luck continued when he won Tony Ball's match which was very hard with the strong wind all day until 4 o'clock when the wind dropped after everyone had stopped fishing!  Drew McLuskey took 41 lbs 5 oz, second place went to Brian Docherty with 22lbs 1oz and coming third was Brian Hewitt with 17 lbs 1 oz. Well done to Drew - it was your lucky 3 days!

On Sunday, the Edinburgh and Lothian Carp Group also had a hard day with the strong wind which seemed to be all over today. The match was won by David Mathew with 13.700 kg, Andy Morrison came second with 7.2 kg and third place was taken by John Dingwall with 6.8 kg.

On Thursday Barry Morgan from Dalgetty Bay had another great catch with 100 lb plus on peg 18 on the Snake and Jim Duncan from Stirling on peg 45 on the Snake had 50 lbs on pellet and worm with the feeder.

Week Ending 22nd August 2010

There were a lot of good catches last week including Bob Smith from Murthly who fished the Snake for the first time and had a brilliant day catching some fantastic conditioned common carp on peg 10 with halibut pellet on a hair rig. Jimmy Tripney from Perth had a great day on Midton catching a good mix of fish including a 13lb 6 oz mirror carp and on Sunday Jim Duncan from Stirling fished Midton only for a few hours and caught 17 carp including a common at 8lbs 8oz and a ghostie at 5 lbs all on hard pellet.

Tony Ball's match did not have the good conditions of last week as it was a bit wet and windy and this was won by Jim Hillhouse with 27 lbs 15 oz, Brian Docherty came second with 21lbs 8oz and third place went to Brian Hewitt with 21lbs 4oz.

Week Ending 16th August 2010

There was great celebration yesterday after the weigh in of the 5th Orchill Series Match today when Scottish International fisher James Woodrow broke his own record and Orchill's as well weighing in 102lbs 1oz of fish at today's match on the inner Snake. In second place was Derek Brady with 56lbs 11oz and Drew McLuskey came third with 38lbs 7oz. Everyone enjoyed a very good day catching fish and getting a sun tan on one of the hottest day's since June. The final of the Orchill Series is on the Sunday the 5th September when several are going to be fighting it out to win.

Charles Lamb from Armadale caught a 16lbs 5oz common carp, 10 year old Morgan Robertson from Blackburn beat her Dad catching 12 carp on the Snake on pellets and George Eldridge from Glasgow had 20 -25 lbs of a mixed bag on peg 10 on the Snake and son William had 30 lbs of carp on peg 9.

It has been another good fishing week on both the Snake and Midton lakes with plenty of fish being caught on lots of different bait. The sweep competition held on the Snake was won by David Mathews with 56lbs, Neil Chapman was second with 44lbs 6oz and third place was taken by Brian Hewitt with 40lbs 1oz. On Sunday the Strathclyde Police Federation match was won by Brian Docherty with 47 lbs 11oz. Today Barry Morgan from Dunfermline had a great day catching several fish on Midton on the pole including a 13 lb 4 oz Ghost carp which made his day. Harvey Sleeman from Alva (13 yrs old) came for the first time last Saturday to the coarse and caught 14 fish on the Snake and enjoyed it so much he was back again the next day.

Laurence Compton-Howe from Blackford had a excellent day's fishing catching 40 - 50 lbs of mixed fish and a 10 lb carp, on maggot and worm, Ian Stewart, Coatbridge had another good day catching 60 lb of mixed fish on peg 41 on the Snake and Mark Bradley, Roseneath had a great day catching a 10 lb carp and 40 lbs of carp on peg 18 on the Snake.

William Eldridge from Glasgow won the competition between him and his Dad George with 40 lb of all carp on corn from peg 9 on the Snake - George had 15 - 20 lbs of mixed fish on peg 10. Brian Docherty from Cumbernauld had a great day on peg 38 on the Snake catching 35 lbs of carp on paste and pellet and young Shane Docherty from Tillicoultry took 16 perch on Midton.

Tony Ball from Kirkintilloch fishing on peg 29 had 60lbs of carp, Jim Duncan, Stirling, had another great day on peg 20 catching 70 lbs of carp on pellet and

Toni Hunt, on the Snake had 40 lbs of fish and a 5 lb barbel.

Both the Snake and Midton have been fishing well with all kinds of groundbait and pellets. The sweep held on Sunday was won by Neil Chapman with 43lbs 10oz, Mark Cook was second with 35lbs 14oz and third place went to Brian Hewitt with a bag of26lbs 6oz.

Jim Hillhouse and son Paul had good day catching about 30 lbs each of mixed fish with Paul getting a 8 lb mirror on the Snake, Craig McDermott, Haddington, had 15 carp the biggest 4 lbs on Midton and Wm. Elridge from Glasgow on peg 9 on the Snake had 50-60 lbs of carp, a 5lb Ghostie along with 10-15 lbs of skimmers, roach, barbel and tench on corm and pellet. George Elridge on peg 10 had 20-25 lbs of all silvers on corn and maggot, David Thomson, Alva had 10 carp for 25lbs 8oz on Midton, Neil Ballantyne, Tullibody, had 4 carp for 11 lbs on corn, Stevie Myles, Linlithgow had 24 carp the best a 6 lb common on Midton on swimstem pellets and Jim Duncan, Stirling, on peg 15 had 60-65 lbs carp on pellet.

hi again alistair here's my newest report for Orchill,on Sunday 25th July I went to Orchill with my mates. It was a windy day but fished well, I broke my previous best with a 15 pound mirror carp. I caught it on the method feeder with jelly pellets bought from the shop on site. I also had four more carp a 5lb a 6lb and two smaller, my mate Gary White got his rod ripped off his bankstick on to Midton where after about 15 minutes he managed to get it back in with a nice 6lb common carp still on it, his first carp ever. He got a few more smaller ones. His twin brother Alan had about 5 carp as well, the biggest about 5lb. Dale Robertson and his brother Derek were going strong when the twins and I packed up and left, They both had 6 carp each but were just getting into their stride. All part of a brilliant day, I am well pleased with my new PB.

The SFCA Federation Cup Match was won by James Dorman from Magiscroft with 67lbs 2oz, fellow club mate Bobby Marshall caught 55lbs to take second place and third place went to Ian Whitson from Monklands with 50lbs 7oz.

On Sunday, fishing on the Midton Lake, David Stewart from Blackburn was delighted to catch his best fish yet a 15lb 1 oz mirror on pellet 'O's as well as several more good fish around the 5-6 lb mark. Mark Gleave, Auchterarder, fishing on the Snake had another good day with 65lb of fish including a 6lb ghostie and David McCabe, Dunfermline, had an excellent day on Midton catching just under 100 lbs of fish including a 15lb mirror, 9lb ghostie and an 8 lb tench - the overall average was 6lb and all were taken  on worm.

Alex Neil, Tullibody, and Ian Stewart, Coatbridge, both caught 13 carp each on Midton on pellet, David Thomson, Alva, had 5 carp for 17lbs 8oz on pellet and Laurence Compton-Howe, Blackford, had 10 lb of mainly crucians on the Snake.

Last week's Thursday evening 3 hour match was won by James Woodrow with 50lbs 13oz, William Brockie took second place with 32lbs 7oz and David McGregor was third placed with a catch weighing 32lbs 7oz. The 4th match of the Orchill Series was fished last Sunday and was won by Colin McKerrell with 53lbs 6oz, Neil Chapman netted 53lbs 4oz to take second place and third place went to Nigel Faulds with 51lbs 11oz – a very close fought match indeed.

Eddie Spitteri from Paisley had a good day on the Snake catching 100 fish on casters, David Mathews, Edinburgh on Midton had a lovely 7lb 2oz Tench, John Dingwall, Edinburgh, had a good day with his best carp being 8lbs 9oz on Midton and Mark Wildish, Perth, had 40 - 50 lbs of fish the best an 8lbs 8oz carp on halibut pellet on Midton.

There were some good catches this week with a wide variety of pellets etc being used. On Sunday the temperature was warm but the wind made fishing difficult as it was going in all directions.

Tony Ball's sweep today was won by Brian Docherty Snr. with 41lbs 1oz, Brian Hewitt was second with 38lbs 4oz and third place went to Neil Chapman with 26lbs 5oz.

Last Thursday evening there was a small three hour match that was won by Colin McKerrow with 44lbs 2oz, second placed was James Woodrow with 32lbs 2oz and third place was taken by Martin Pearson who netted 26lbs 4oz.

Other catches have included Tom Bates from Fife who had a very good day catching 27 carp, 5 roach, 4 tench, 1 bream and 1 barbel on carp pellets on the Snake, Jim Duncan, Stirling, had another good day catching 40 carp – best 9lbs from the Snake Lake using pellet and Stevie Myles, Linlithgow, had 7 carp the best 6 lbs but was beaten by his son David who got 11 carp the best a 4lb 9oz common on green pellets on Midton. Also on Midton, Alex Neil Tullibody had another good day catching 17 carp including a 7 lb Ghostie on the pellet waggler, William Eldridge, Glasgow, on Midton had 11 common carp and 3 mirror all about 4 - 7 lbs and 2 tench at 2 lbs each and his father George on the Snake had orfe, chub, roach, golden rudd, perch, carp and tench on maggots and pellet. On Sunday match no 3 was fished for the Orchill Series in the worst weather conditions possible - wind, rain, thunder and lightning. The wind was just horrendous at times making fishing very difficult, only one gave up and went home early and only one put down their pole when the lightning came. The winner was Davie McGregor with 43 lbs 3 oz, Mark Cook was second with 30lbs 12oz and third placed was Jim Hillhouse who netted 30lbs 5oz.

Last week some really good catches were recorded on the lovely summer days with some great fishing being enjoyed by many of the regular anglers. AlexNeil from Tullibody had 15 fish on Midton with 2 at 5 lbs, 1 at 6 lbs and 1 at 7 lbs, Alex Neilson, Portobello, again on Midton had 15 carp the best a 12 lb common and Roy McLaren from Denny fishing on the middle of the Snake had over 60 silvers and enjoyed another good day. Derek McGoff from Glenrothes on Midton had a 15 lb mirror, Grant Clark, Kilsyth, on the Snake had 52 lb of various fish and a 8 lb Ghostie on peg 48 and Ali Sneddon, Kirkcaldy, onMidton had 7 mirror to 4 lbs, 1 common and 1 leather at 4 lbs and a mirror at 11lbs 5 oz. John Green from Grangemouth had another good day catching lots of fish on the outside of the Snake and was delighted to get a 3 lb barbel on worms, maggots and pellet, William McMillan from Larkhall had 22 lbs of mixed fish on the Snake with a maggot >mixture and David Younger, Glasgow, had 2 mirror on Midton 1 at 17 lbs 1 oz and the other 13 lbs 2 oz.

It has been another good fishing week with plenty of fish being caught and released as well as anglers getting a good sun tan. Soft hooking pellets, feeding pellets, maggots and various ground baits and castors have been doing well.

Tony Ball's sweep today had 19 anglers taking part with the winner being Willie Brockie with 46 lbs 10 oz, Drew McLuskie was second with 35 lbs 1 oz and Mark Cook was third with 33 lbs 9 oz - everyone caught fish and the weather was overcast with a little rain.

Allan Colon, Tranent, had 72 various carp and 12 tench on the Snake, Julia Derosa, Kinglassie, had 4 common carp one at 9.1/2 lbs and 1 mirror and Mick had 1 tench 2 mirror and 1 common on Midton. George Howie from Linwood had a mirror at 14 lbs 14 oz and a tench at 3lbs 8oz and 15 mixed carp to 7 lbs on Midton. Also on Midton Ali Sneddon, Kirkcaldy, had another good day having 8 mirror carp to 7 lbs 14 oz, 1 leather at 3 lbs 3 oz, and a ghostie at 6 lbs 4 oz. Daren Adams, Carluke had a great day on the Snake catching 80 lbs of mixed fish the best being a 7lb 8oz mirror, David Thomson, Alva, on Midton, had 6 carp including a 7 lb one and an 8 lb one and Jim Duncan, Stirling, had another good late afternoon and evening catching 80 lbs of mixed fish on peg 20 on the Snake. Louise Mee from Edinburgh had 7 skimmers and 2 perch, Frank McKenna, Edinburgh, had 6 skimmers, 2 roach and 1 carp and Stevie Marshall, Linlithgow had 10 carp the best a 6 lb ghostie today, and son Liam (7) was delighted to catch a 5 lb mirror and a 4 lb common on Midton.

The Midton and the Snake have both been fishing very well with a lot of good catches and plenty of happy anglers also enjoying the sun.The Orchill series was fished by 23 anglers with 578 lbs 4oz of fish being caught with an average of 25 lbs 13 oz each. The winner was Davie McGregor with 52 lbs; second equal place went to Colin Hart with 49 lbs 5 oz and Derek Brady with 49 lbs 5 oz.

Other catches last week included Ian Stewart, Coatbridge, on Midton with 40 carp, a lot around the 4 - 5lb 10 oz and 2 tench one at 4 lbs, Steven Myles, Linlithgow, had 8 carp and 1 ghostie to 4 lbs on Midton and Julie Derosa, Kinglassie, had 1 mirror carp at 4 lbs and husband Mick had 5 mirror carp to 5 lbs and 5 common to 3.1/2 lbs on Midton. Ali Sneddon from Kirkcaldy had a tench of 5lbs 10 oz and 5 common carp to 6 lbs and a mirror at 4.1/2 lbs from Midton, George Elridge, Glasgow, on the Snake had 50 lbs of tench, roach, perch, chub and crucians on peg 26 on maggots and William Eldridge had 50 - 60 lbs of mostly mirror and common carp to 6 lbs on corn and pellet on peg 28. Jim Duncan from Stirling had 50 lb of various fish on peg 28 on the Snake on corn, pellet mixed with groundbait, David Younger, Glasgow, on Midton had several carp up to 6lbs 8oz and a 3lb 8oz tench on strawberry pellets and C Steele, Perth, had 30 various, carp, tench and roach on the Snake.

The Magiscroft Club was here for their match last Sunday and their 24 anglers had a good day with all catching fish. The heaviest net was caught by James Woodrow with 82lbs 8.5oz, Stewart Rae came second with 66lbs 10oz and Kevin Murphy was third placed with a catch weighing 46lbs 2.5oz. On the middle of the snake Tony Ball had a small sweep for the silver fish which was won by Brian Hewitt with 28 lbs.

Both waters have been fishing very well with a lot of good catches. Yesterday Mark Cook, Glasgow, was disappointed he only caught 91 lbs of mixed fish on peg 53 before he had to leave early to catch the football or he would have had over 100 lbs! Gordon Luke from Paisley had a 15lbs 8oz carp from Midton, David Wise, Glasgow, had a 10 lb Carp on his first cast and Alex Neil, Tullibody had 13 carp and his son Dillon had 9 carp on Midton. Alex Christie from Elgin had another good day catching 50 lb of mixed fish on the Snake on pellet, Ian Clive, Elgin, had 35 lbs next to Alex also on pellet and Julie Derosa, Kinglassie, had 1 tench at 3lbs 6oz, 2 common carp, 2 mirror carp at3lbs 8oz and 1 rudd at l lb all on pellet.Mick had 4 mirror carp from 1 - 6.lbs, 1 tench and 2 common carp. John Ingram from Liverpool had a good day catching 50 plus small fish on the Snake, Ali Sneddon Kirkcaldy on two visits had 24 common carp from 1lob oz - 6lbs 8oz, 7 mirrors from 1lb 8oz – 8lbs 1oz, 2 tench best 6lbs 6oz, 3 ghosties 3 – 5lbs 12oz all on green soft hooking pellets.

Ross Hamill had 30 chub and 2 roach on maggots on the Snake, Jim Storrar had 25 chub on maggots and Peter Hutchison, Hamilton, had 40 carp on the Snake on a pellet waggler.

Both the Midton and the Snake have been fishing well with loads of good catches on a very wide variety of baits, various pellets, worms and maggots mixed with wide variety of ground baits.

Sunday, a dull warm day with a bit of rain, saw the Orchill Open taking place with 29 anglers catching a total weight of 932 lbs, with an average of 31.79 lbs. The Orchill Open Match Shield was won by George Yardley Jnr. with  68 lbs 15 oz, James Wood row was second with 64lbs 1oz and John Callaghan came third with 53lbs.

Some other recorded catches this week included Jim Duncan, Stirling 62 lbs of mixed fish on the Snake on pellets, David Thomson, Stirling had 5 carp for 18 lbs, before racing off as his wife was in labour, Peter Calver, Dalkeith on two visits had 12 carp up to 7 lbs and 18 carp up to 8lbs 8oz on Midton and Laurence Compton-Howe, Blackford had 20 carp 1 bream, 2 barbel and 10 perch on the Snake on double red maggot. Ali Sneddon, Kirkcaldy, on two visits had 16 common carp up to 6 lbs, 4 mirror 2 - 4 lbs, Ghostie 3 - 4 lbs, Tench 2 – 6lbs 8oz and roach, Jim Whitelaw, Carstairs, had 15 carp and 1 orf on Midton, Jim Gray, Rigside, had 24 carp to 6 lbs on Midton and Alex Neil, Tullibody, had 14 carp to 5 lbs. Last week was a very good fishing week up at the Snake and Midton with plenty of fish being caught on a wide variety of baits, various ground baits, with worms, corn hemp and maggots and the soft hooking pellets doing well. On Saturday the final qualifier for the Ayrstrike Final was held up on the Snake on one the hottest days we have had in a long time. The result was1st David Corcoran 55lbs 13oz, 2nd Neil Chapman 41lbs 12oz and 3rd Drew McCluskey 39lbs 6oz.

Sunday's open match had hot weather again with a couple of showers just before the end. The result was 1st Mark Cook 51lbs 13oz, 2nd James Woodrow 49lbs 9oz and 3rd David Corcoran 37lbs 8oz.

Jim Duncan, on a short visit after work, had 28 various fish on peg 33 on the Snake, Nigel Faulds, J B Angling Kirkintilloch had 45 lbs of various fish on peg 22 on Thursday and Dan Hewins, Falkirk had 2 tench, one at 8lbs 2 oz and one at 6 lb plus 20 carp at 2 - 5 lbs with lots on perch on Midton. Adrian Hallgarth, Braco in 3 hours had 30 lb of carp the best 8 lbs, Alex Neil, Tullibody had a good day today catching 33 lbs of carp on the pellet with a waggler, and son Dillon had 6 lb of carp and Peter Carver, Dalkeith had 9 carp 2 - 5 lbs on Midton peg 1.

I had 5 carp, biggest 6.5lbs my mate Alan White had about 20 carp including his new PB, a 10 pound mirror. Dale Robertson had about 8 carp including a 6 pound ghostie and a 9 .5lb mirror other mate Derek Robertson had about 8 carp. Alan's all fell to the method on corn and pellet same with Dale and Derek, I got mine on float with prawn

Dave Stewart's 11lb 4oz Ghost Carp, a beautyThe Midton lake fished well on Thursday 21st May I got 8 carp and one 3 lb tench and broke my record with an 11lb 4 oz Ghost Carp. I alsohad a 5.2lb common, the rest were between 1 half and 3 pounds. My friend Dale Robertson had around 20 carp biggest 8lb with a good few about 5lbs my other pal Derek Robertson had about 8 carp and a nice 4lb tench, biggest carp about 5 lbs. Last mate, Alan White had about 9 carp, a nice ide and a 3lb bream. They all fell to pellets, sweetcorn and prawns. I got my PB on prawn.

Both the Snake and Midton have been fishing well with a wide variety of baits.

Sunday saw the first match in the Orchill Coarse Series taking place and this got off to a good start with a warmer day.29 anglers took part fishing in 4 sections with sweep for each. The winner was Steff Hunter with 52 lbs 14 oz, 2nd Mark Cook, 42lbs 7oz, 3rd Neil Chapman, 38lbs8oz and 4th Derek Brady 37lbs8oz.

Young boys, Ewan McIntosh from Crieff and Cameron Armstrong from  Comrie had a good visit with Ewan catching 5 fish on Midton including a 6 lb Tench and 2 carp at 5 lbs and  Cameron took 4 fish carp 3 - 4 lbs., on pellets and corn.

Jim Craig, Coalsnaughton on Midton had around 40 lb of fish and was catching them on every kind of bait he had, Derek Brown, Denny, on Midton had 12 fish including a 6lb common, 6.1/2 lb mirrorall on soft pellet and hemp. Next Saturday, 22nd May there is another qualifier for the Ayrstrike followed by a sweep run by James Woodrow the following day.

Both Midton and the Snake are fishing well.There have been several good fish being caught on Midton, and the fish are in very good condition after the long winter. Pellets, soft hookers, worms and maggots have been doing well mixed in with various ground baits.

An Ayrstrike Qualifier was held at the weekend when it was a bit warmer and sunnier. The winner was Bobby Marshall with 35.42 kilos, Colin Hunt was second with 32.76 kilos and Derek Brady took third place with 15.42 kilos.

Both the Midton and Snake Lakes fished well last week with ground baits, pellets, worms and maggots, soft hooking pellets all doing well. On Sunday Tony Ball's match on the Snake went well despite the varied weather of sun and wind at times quite cold. 1st Mark Brown 60lbs 4oz, 2nd Stewart Rae 43lbs 15oz and 3rd Bobby Marshall 26lbs 3oz.

Alec Christie from Elgin had 3 good days on a visit down here, first day 19 Ide, 14 Roach, 1 Bream, 2 Carp one at 5 lbs inside of the Snake. On the second day he caught 40 lbs of a good mixture of fish on the outside of the Snake and on his third day he had 18 Carp to 5 lbs 7 Bream, 14 Roach, 7 Tench and Ide about 50 - 60 lbs all on the outside of the Snake using corn, groundbait, pellets and strawberry pellets.

Bob Smith from Murthly had a few crucians and a 9 lb common carp on Midton on halibut soft hooking pellets, Geoff Monks from Fife had 50lbs of a good assorted mixture of silver fish in the Middle Snake on maggots, pellets and corn and George Eldridge and son William from Glasgow had an excellent day on both waters. William had 20 lbs of carp and George had 15 lbs of all silvers on the snake on corn and maggots. On Midton George had Tench at 6.1/2 lbs and carp at 5 lbs whilst William managed 6 carp at about 20 - 25 lbs on pellet and corn.

Joe Ogilvie, Dundee, on Midton had mostly tench and 1 at 7 lbs on pellets, Jimmy Tripney, Perth had mostly tench on pellets from Midton and Frank Larg, Dundee on peg 73 on the Snake had 32 lbs of roach etc on maggots. Nigel Faulds of J B Angling in Kirkintilloch had 28 lbs on peg 43 of the Snake, Tony Ball, Kirkintilloch had 27lbs 8oz on peg 45 of the Snake, Darren Ferguson had 25 lbs on peg 50 and David McGregor had 16 lbs on peg 51 on the Snake.

Last Sunday, Tony Ball had a little sweep match on the outside of the snake and this was won by James Woodrow with 37lbs 12oz. 2nd was Kevin Murphy with 35lbs4oz, Robert Marshall was third placed with 24lbs 110z and fourth place was taken by Margaret Rae who took 21lbs 1oz of fish. Fifth place went to Bryan Hewitt with 7lbs 15oz.

Paul Griffin from Bonnybridge caught two carp, one a beauty about 15 lbs and another one at 5 lbs on maggots from Midton and it is good to see the fish on Midton starting to move again. On Saturday Jim Duncan from Stirling had a good time catching 11 carp on peg 34 on the outside of the Snake.

Midton and the Snake have been fishing well with the warmer weather. A wide variety of baits are being used including worms, pellets, various ground baits, soft hooking pellets and maggots.

Dave Wise, Glasgow on peg 4 had 50 lb plus carp on the Snake,Jimmy Tripney, Dundee had 35 lbs of mixed fish on Midton including a 6 lb 5 oz tench on corn, maggot and pellet and Joe Ogilvie, Dundee had 20 lbs of crucians, carp and tench on Midton on pellet and worm. Frank Larg, Dundee fishing on the Snake had 27lbs 8oz of roach and perch on maggot. William Elridge Snr and Jnr., on pegs 33 and 32, one had 17 carp and 1 chub and the other had 30 lbs of various fish all on maggots, Steven Myles, Linlithgow on Midton had 2 common carp, both 5lbs 8oz and Lewis Davidson, Linlithgow had 2 commons at 2lbs 8ozand 4lbs 8oz and 2 tench 1 at 1lb 8oz and 4lbs 8oz. Chris Cairns, Glenrothes had 16 various fish on peg 47 and his son Callum had 2 carp all on maggots and last but not least Mark Wildish, Perth had 26lbs 8oz of carp and tench.

Ayrstrike qualifier was held last Sunday on the outside of the Snake. The conditions were not as warm as hoped but it did not deter the competitors as previous competitions this year here have had to be cancelled because of the ice.

The winner was Colin McKerrow with 13.34 kilos, runner up was Neil Chapman with 12.72 kilos and third place went to Greig Stokes who netted 11.36 kilos. Good luck to Colin in the final in the summer.

Last Monday Ian Stewart from Coatbridge had a great day catching 59 fish on the inside of the Snake Lake using maggots and worms. Les White from Dunfermline had 11 Barbell and 1 carp on the Snake from maggots and a secret extra 'not to be revealed' and David Olley from Balmoral, fishing on Midton, had 7 carp up to 9 lbs on maggots. It is good to see the fish are starting to take on Midton.

At long last the ice and snow is away – hopefully for good but now with the warmer weather there was some good fishing up on the Middle and Outer of the Snake today.

On Saturday, a new angler to the coarse fishing, Andrew Gibson from Glasgow caught 21 fish on peg 4, the outer of the Snake – he returned on Sunday and caught another 18, both days a mixture of carp, chub, perch and roach with maggot and ground bait.

Tony Ball from Kirkintilloch had a great day catching over 50 , roach, perch and ide on worm on the middle of the snake, Ian Stewart, Airdrie caught 15 carp and 4 roach on sweetcorn on the outside of the Snake and Alex Neil, Tullibody had 13 carp and 1 roach on sweetcorn. Jim Duncan from Stirling had 26 carp on peg 34 on worm and sweetcorn and Greg Stokes, Blairdrummond had a good day catching 40 lb of mixed fish, 25 carp plus silvers all on maggot and pellet.

Last Sunday started off nice and calm but unfortunately the wind got up and it was difficult for the anglers taking part in Tony's Open Sweepstake to hold onto their poles.

This was the last of the summer sweepstakes but there will be winter open matches for anyone wanting to carry on through the winter, weather permitting. For the winter the carp have been taken out of the middle of the Snake and the silver fish have been put in from the outer of the Snake to the inner. Hopefully this will give us some good days fishing during the winter.

Tony Ball won his sweepstake today with 7 lbs 4 oz and Sandy McKay was second with 5 lbs 12 oz. Daniel Clarkston, Glasgow had 8 carp up to 8 lbs on sweetcorn, Garry Owens, Kirkcaldy had 11 carp 2 - 3 lb and 1 tench at 4 lbs 8.1/2 oz on soft hooking pellets on a Hair Rig and Alex Neil, Tullibody had a good day today catching 17 carp on Midton with green groundbait mixed with all sizes of pellets.

This is the last report for this season but the fishery will still be open all year.

Week Ending 20th September 2009

Last week was good again weather wise and there have been some good catches on both the Snake and Midton Lakes. Sunday was much cooler and some wind making conditions for Tony Ball's Open Match more challenging. The event was won by Ritchie Vernon with 24 lbs 15 oz, 2nd Allan Taylor 15 lbs 2oz and 3rd Paul Joyce 10 lbs. Chris Butler, Glasgow had a good day on Thursday on Midton, using Sonubait's groundbait and soft hooking pellets, to catch 12 carp for 86 lbs 10 oz biggest - 14 lbs 2ozand Alex Neil, Tullibody had 10 common and mirror carp on Midton on the pellet waggler.

Week Ending 13th September 2009

Last Sunday saw the final of the Orchill Summer Series with the points today deciding the overall winner. The two sections today were won by;-  Section 1: 1st Jim Duncan, 30 lbs 10 oz, 2nd Dave Horban12 lbs 12 oz and 3rdDrew McLuskey 12 lbs. Section 2: st Paul Joyce 37 lbs 11 oz, 2nd Ian Whitson, 35 lbs 7oz and 3rdMark Cook 34 lbs 12 oz. The overall winner was 1st Ian Whitson, 2nd Tony Ball, 3rd Paul Joyce and 4th Mark Cook. The Angus Dragons had a match that was won by Danny Lawson with 50 lbs 12 oz.

Other catches last week included Richard Harrow and his son, from Stirling who had two good days with carp at 15 lbs, 12 lbs and 10 lbs and a 9 lb Orfe as well as many other smaller ones on Midton and Jim Gordon, Birnham, fishing with soft hooking pellets had 1 mirror at 10 lbs, 1 at 6 lbs, 3 at 4 lbs and 6 at 2 lbs.

Alex Neil, Tullibody had 2 good days with 9 carp for 32 lbs on the day one - biggest 6lbs 8oz and a further 20 carp for 50 lbs plus. Joe Ogilvie, Dundee, had a good day with his special secret bait catching 67 lbs and 2 tench at 6lbs 8oz and 4lbs 4oz. Mark Gleave, Auchterarder, had a 9 lb carp and 4 for 7 lbs on the Snake Lake.

Week Ending 7th September 2009

The Orchill Open Match organised by Tony Ball attracted 42 competitors. There was very little rain and wind so the anglers enjoyed a good day. The prize money was divided up into 8 sections so there was a winner in every one. The overall winner was Tony Ball so clearly he was in for quite a bit of stick. The results were:-  1st Tony Ball with 21 lbs 9 oz, 2nd equal were Allan Taylor, 13 lbs 2 oz and Geo Yardley Jnr., 13 lbs 2 oz, 4th Geo Yardley Snr. 11 lbs 10 oz and 5th Margaret Rae who had 11 lbs 7 oz. A special thanks to the sponsors, J B Angling, Glasgow Angling, Ronnie at Magiscroft and Mike Slater from Sonubaits for supplying the prizes.

Last Sunday Edinburgh and Lothian Coarse Angling Club had their match here and the results were 1st Graeme Coyle who caught 10 lbs 10 oz, 2nd Geoff Low 6 lbs 12 oz and 3rd Richard Green 6 lbs 11 oz. Club guest Dave Minard had the heaviest catch with 28 lbs 11 oz.

On Tuesday the Royal Navy had a match and enjoyed a good day and the event was won by Hugh Welsh with a good catch of 17 lbs 6 oz. Second place went to Dinger with 14 lbs and Scouse Jones was third with 12 lbs 14 oz.

Also doing well last week were Jim Gordon from Birnam had a 17lb 8oz Mirror Carp on Midton on Tuesday, Joe from Dundee had 16 fish on Midton and lost about 20 to 30, Jim Tripney, Dundee, had 24 fish on Midton and Frank Lurg, Dundee had 26 lbs 5 oz on the Snake. Jim Duncan, Stirling had 18 lbs of mixed fish on the Snake in two hours, Darren Ferguson, Motherwell, had 70 lbs of mixed fish on peg 64 on the Snake, Dave McGregor, Motherwell, 30 lbs on peg 66 andWillie McMillan, Larkhall had 38 lbs of mixed fish on the Snake.

Week Ending 31st August 2009

There have been some good catches this week on both the Snake and Midton last week with a wide variety of ground bait doing well mixed with pellets and worms and maggots and soft hooking pellets the best.

Alex Neil, Tullibody on two visits had 30 carp with an average of 2 lbs, Iain Stewart, Coatbridge last Sunday had 20 fish the biggest a 5 lb Ghostie and a 3 and 4 lb common and on Monday he had a 50lb catch from the Snake. Ron Bell, Dunning, had a good day catching several fish including a 12 lb Carp Tony Hayler, Falkirk, had 30 lbs of carp and silver fish on the Snake and on another session took 12 carp and tench. Bill Bateman from Dollar had a great day catching 64 lbs of mixed fish including a 6lb 8oz Ghostie, John Green, Whitecross, on peg 18 of the Snake had a 10lb 4oz, 6lb 8oz and a 3lb 8oz common carp and various other smaller fish, Lee Kelly had 56 lbs of mixed fish and Lee Spool and Shaun Mac both had 18 lbs on the Snake. Neil Chapman and Brian Docherty, Airdrie, both had 75 lbs each from pegs 65 and 66 on the inside of the Snake, Dave Wise, Glasgow, caught 77 carp for approx 65 lbs on peg 66 and Bryan Hewitt, Hamilton, had 55 carp best 5 lbs on peg 66.

The coarse fishing has been affected by the wet and changeable weather this week especially for those attempting to use poles. David Mathew from Livingston had a good day catching 50 lbs of mixed fish on the Snake Lake and Bill Bateman from Dollar had 14 mixed fish in between putting his brolly up and down all the time! On Friday Tony Ball from Kirkintilloch had 85 lbs of mixed fish from peg 66 on the Snake using maggots, Charles Lamb, Armadale, had a ghost carp at 8lbs and 3 common carp on Midton and on Sunday Brian Hewitt from Hamilton had 45 carp for 50 lbs on peg 67 on the Snake. The Magicroft Club match was held on the Snake and the results are: - 1st Kevin Murphy 32 .47lbs, 2nd Brian Docherty Jnr. 26 .31 lbs and 3rd Jim Hillhouse 21 .95 lbs.

Week Ending 16th August 2009

It has been a very changeable week with some very good coarse fishing days especially on Thursday when it was really warm. On Sunday for Tony Ball's Open Match which was held on the middle of the Snake, the strong gusts of wind made fishing very difficult especially with poles. The winner Paul Joyce was the luckiest one being in the right place as he won with 75lbs 6oz way ahead of anyone else. 1st Paul Joyce 75 lbs 6 oz, 2nd Steff Hunter 29 lbs 4 oz and 3rd George Yardley Jnr. 8 lbs 9 oz.

Only a few have written their catches in the book this week and they have been catching well on pellet, soft hooking pellets, green swimstem, hempseed and worms.

Geoff Monks from Kirkcaldy had a great day on the middle of the Snake catching 130 lbs of silver fish with a carp of 7lbs and Mark Wilson from Crieff on an evening had carp at 8lbs 8oz, 5 lbs and 3 lbs all on sweetcorn. Dave Thomson and Alec Neil from Tullibody had 14 lbs of carp and a Golden Orfe at 7 lbs and Alec had 13 mixed fish with a tench at 4 lbs and carp at 9 lbs and 5 lbs. David Millar from Kenmore had a great day catching 25 lbs of mixed fish on lots of maggots and Steven Myles, Linlithgow had 11 mixed carp and a 5 lb common and mirror for a weight of 30lbs 4oz.

The coarse ponds have been fishing very well this week with the warmer weather. Alec Neil from Tullibody had two good days catching 15 fish each day for 30 lbs on Midton, Bill Bateman had another good day catching 25 lbs of mixed fish including a 6 lb 2 oz mirror carp on the Snake and Steven Myles from Linlithgow had 41lbs 12oz of mixed fish and a 7lbs 8oz Ghostie and a 3lbs 12oz Tench. David his son had 4 mixed carp. William Eldridge, Glasgow, had 60 lb of mixed fish on sweetcorn on peg 10 on the Snake, Jim Duncan from Stirling using a new pole had 43 for 22lbs on peg 22 on the Snake. Douglas Craig from Linwood had 42 lb of mixed fish on various pellets; his son Curtis age 13 had 38 lbs of mixed carp with a 6 lb 8 oz tench which he was really delighted with, all on pellets. and Drew Walker also from Linwood had 32 lbs of mixed carp on pellet and a 3 lb bream. Lee Rose Snr from Perth had 23 fish with a 6 lb carp and Ned O'Neil from Coatbridge had 34 mixed fish on the Snake.

The Orchill Summer Series had another match last Sunday and the results were 1st Ian Whitson 40 lbs 1 oz,  2nd, Sandy McKay 20 lbs 3oz and 3rd George Yardley Snr18 lbs 6 oz.

The points position for the matches are at the moment is: - 1st Ian Whitson, 2nd Tony Ball and 3rd Paul Joyce.

Week Ending 2nd August 2009

It has been another good fishing week up at the coarse with both the Midton and the Snake Lakes fishing well. Jim McAdam from Motherwell had a good day catching 35 lbs of mixed fish, including chub on the Snake, Frank Larg, Dundee had 7 fish for 29 lbs, Jim Tripney, Dundee had 45 lbs of carp and Rick Wilkie, Forfar, had 28 carp the best being 5 lbs and on a further visit caught 17 carp - the best being 6 lbs on Midton.

Dave Wise from Glasgow had 60 lbs of fish including a 7 lb Ghostie and a 5lb Mirror on the Snake, Willie McMillan, Larkhall, had 24lbs of carp, rudd, perch and tench, Neil Cockburn, Glasgow caught 9 carp for 25 lbs and Ricky McIntyre and Jason from Dundee had a good day catching 48 lbs of carp and tench.

Stephen Marshall, Linlithgow, had 5 carp - the best 5 lb and 2 tench, Steven Myles, Linlithgow, had a good day catching 10 carp with one 8lbs 12oz, one at 7lbs and 1 tench.

On Sunday, Today Tony Ball's Open Match had 22 anglers and the results are: - 1st Steff Hunter with 38lbs 10oz; 2nd Neil Chapman 37lbs 3oz and 3rd Brian Hewitt 31lbs 12oz.

Week Ending 19th July 2009

Both the Midton and Snake have been fishing well with plenty of good catches this week on a wide variety of ground baits, hemp, pellets maggots and worms. The soft hooking pellets seem to do well too.

David Wise, Glasgow had 60 lbs of carp, bream, roach and tench from the Snake, Sam Boyd, Kelty, had 3 carp and 1 barbell, and Sam Jnr. (age7) had 4 mirrors and 1 common carp. John Green, Whitecross, had his best fish yet catching an 11 lb common carp from the Snake, Roy McLaren, Denny, had a very good day with 150 mixed fish plus and 7 lb carp, Brian Docherty, Cumbernauld had another great day with 39 lbs of mixed fish from Midton and David Horban, Leuchars from Midton had 51 lbs including a lovely 8 lbs 11 oz common carp. Paul Carhart, Leuchars, had 41 lbs from Midton on paste and 8 mm pellet, Iain and Stewart Fisher from Fife had a great day on the Snake catching 68 and 53 mixed fish, Scott and young Sarah Arthur from Stonehaven had 15 lbs of common and mirror carp and Nigel Faulds, J B Angling, Kirkintilloch had 40 lbs of fish from Midton. Iain McLean, Lennoxtown, had 31 lbs, Eamon Mea from Derbyshire had 21 lbs, James Anderson, Newmills had 35 lbs of carp on pellet the best being a 9lb 8oz Ghostie on Midton and Alex Neil, Tullibody on Midton had 14 carp for 30 lbs. Mark Gleeve, Auchterarder, had a great day on Midton with 40 good mixed fish and a 6lb 8oz tench, Dan Hewins, Falkirk, in the wind and rain on Friday had a 6 lb tench and another 2 at 4 lbs, 7 carp at 2 lbs each and 2 golden orf, Iain Stewart, Coatbridge on the Snake, peg 4, had 58 fish for 49lbs 8oz and Ned O'Neil, Coatbridge on the Snake, peg 5, had 28 mixed fish for 20 lbs. David Bowes, Luncarty, in a short time had 9 carp, 1 tench and 1 bream on peg 5.

Tony Ball's open match on Sunday had to contend with showers and a gusty wind with sun in between. The results are: 1st David Mathew 26 lbs 14 oz, 2nd Steph Hunter 24 lbs 10 oz and 3rd Tony Ball 22 lbs 4 oz.

The Strathclyde Police Championship 2009 match was also on the snake today:-1stTommy Laurieston 36 lbs 4 oz, 2ndBrian Docherty27 lbs 4 oz and 3rd Brian Roy 21 lbs 8 oz.

Week Ending To 12th July 2009

There have been a lot of good catches this week using different methods and kinds of bait. Gordon Fudge from Paisley caught 100 lbs of carp etc off Midton with Jellets and 4mm pellets, Lee Kelly, Paisley had 80 lbs of carp etc., from Midton with Jellets and 4 mm pellets and Allan Rutter, Stonehaven had 15 carp and 1 tench. Steven Rutter Stonehaven had 6 carp. On Midton Bill Bateman from Dollar had 5 lbs of rudd, 2lbs 8oz crucians, 19 lbs of mirrors and commons and Bill's granddaughter Louise Wardlaw (12) enjoyed a great day catching 14lbs 12oz of carp - her best 3lbs 8oz. Richard Harrow and Kevin Todd, Stirling had a great day catching 120 fish between them on the Snake and John Green, Whitecross had 9lb., 7lb., and 6lb carp and a 3lb bream and numerous smaller fish.

Fishing on the Snake Lake, Martin Little from Denny had a great 32lbs bag including a cracking 6lb 2oz mirror carp.

On Sunday Tony Ball's open match had a changing wind to put up with but they all enjoyed a good day. The results are: - 1st Brian Hewitt 45lbs 1oz, 2nd James Woodrow 32lbs 11oz and 3rd Allan Connelly 32lbs 2oz.

Week Ending To 5th July 2009

The fishing has been very good up at the coarse because these fish like the warmer water. The results of Tony Ball's 1st open Match were 1stPaul Joyce with 38lbs 7oz,  2nd The Shaun McGurgan 30lbs and 3rd Bill Bateman 27lbs 1oz. The Team Lanarkshire match was won by Davie Smith with 41lbs, Paul Bryson was second with 19lbs and Mairi Dick came third with 18lbs.

Mark Bradley from Roseneath had a brilliant day on Midton with 20 fish the best being a lovely 16lb mirror carp with an 11 lb one and an 8 lb one. He also had 4 ghost carp at 8 lbs each – all were caught on pellet. Alistair McKinnon, Alva, had a great day catching 8 carp with one at 16 lbs 3 oz, Jim McAdam, Motherwell, fishing on the Snake had 45 lbs of mixed fish with a barbell at 3lbs and a common carp of 3lbs 8oz and Andy Roberts, E & L Carp, had 50 lbs of mixed fish from peg 34 on the Snake.

Steven McCallum from Wishaw had 20 lb of carp and tench off Midton peg 4, James Anderson, Newmills, had 19 mixed fish the best 6 lbs on feeder pellets, Murray Yule, Newmills, had 19 fish -  the best a 7 lb mirror carp all caught on corn from a feeder andSteven Myles, Linlithgow, on two visits had 36lbs 8oz and 31lbs on Midton with the best being a 5lb 8oz common. His son David caught a 2 lb mirror.

Tony Ball from Kirkintilloch from 6.30 pm to 10 pm caught 48 lbs on the Snake, Stephanie Quinton from Motherwell had 8 carp to 3lbs 8oz and a 5lb 8oz bream on Midton on soft pellet, Stephen Quinton, Motherwell, had 20 carp on Midton with hard and soft pellets and Darren McLean, Livingston had 40 lbs carp from Midton. Ned O'Neil from Coatbridge had a great day catching 60 lbs of mixed fish and Brenden McKevennie, Glasgow, had a good mixed bag of 42 lbs from Midton.

Week Ending 28th June 2009

The coarse fishery has been fishing very well especially on the Midton and the Snake Lakes. Last Sunday was the second round of the Orchill Summer Series which went well and the winners were as follows:- 1stIan Whitson 60lbs 6oz, 2nd Mark Cook 31lbs 10oz, 3rd George Yardley Jnr. 24 lbs 3oz, 4th George Yardley Snr. 22 lbs 7oz and 5th equal Bill Bateman and Jim Craig 19lbs 12oz.

Jim Hillhouse, Kirkintilloch the best day's fishing for a long time on Tuesday having a 70 lb catch, Brian Docherty, Cumbernauld had a fantastic day with a 52 lb catch and Dave Richardson, Cumbernauld had a good day with a bag of 45 lbs all caught on Midton. Cliff King, Motherwell and his friend from Essex had a great day's fishing with a 100 lb catch which included a tench at 6 lbs.

Andrew Smart and Keith Edwards, Dunfermline had a good day catching plenty of carp, roach, rudd, tench, bream and perch on the Snake and on Midton Peter Calver from Dalkeith caught 8 carp, 7lbs 8oz, 2 at 5 lbs, 2 at 4lbs 8oz, 2 at 4lbs and one at 2lbs 8oz. Andy Gray, Linlithgow caught 40 fish and was delighted with a 2lb barbell along with carp, roach, skimmer bream, perch and tench.

Ian and Connor Clark from Aberdeenhad a good day catching 30 plus fish from the Snake comprising of carp, bream, perch, roach and rudd and Connor caught his first barbell at 1lbs 8oz and G Monks and M Mulder from Kirkcaldy had another great day with a good mixed bag of 40 lbs.

Week Ending 21st June 2009

It has been a very good fishing week up at the coarse ponds with a lot of good catches on various groundbait, maggots, worms and a wide variety of soft hooking pellets.

Tony Ball's sweep was won by Brian Dochertywith 50lbs 9oz,2nd, Brian Hewitt with 41lbs 15oz and 3rd wasNeil Chapman with 39lbs 9oz. Steven Myles, Linlithgow, had another good day having a PB mirror carp of 17 lbs, it was a beauty and in his own words he was well chuffed.He also had another mirror at 8lbs, 1at 4lbs 8oz and common carp at 4lbs and 2lbs. His son David had 6 carp, common and mirror and 1 tench about 1lb 8oz.

Andy Knox, Cheryl and Robert had a great day having caught between them 46 various carp, tench, roach and barbell on the Snake. On three visits this week Jim Duncan, Stirling, caught 81 various fish up to 7 lbs on the Snake, all caught on corn,

maggots and soft hooking pellets - best 7lbs. Laurence Compton-Howe had a mixed bag of carp, tench, roach and perch for 20 lbs, Alec Neil, Tullibody had 6 carp for 12lbs 8oz and had 17 mixed fish for 41 lbs on another visit, Ian Stewart, Coatbridge, on two visits had 40 carp and tench for 70 lbs, and on another visit took 38 carp, 2 tench and 2 rudd on Midton. Dan Hewins, Falkirk, had a great day catching 45 lbs of carp and tench plus a 9lb 4oz ghost, Les White, Glenrothes, had 29 carp on the Snake with green goundbait, hemp, halibut and maggots and David Bowles, Luncarty, took 8 carp to 4.1/2 lbs on red maggots on Midton. Paul Walsh, Shotts, had a very good first day here with a good mixed bag for 35 lbs on the Snake, Mark Gleeve, Auchterarder, had a great day on the Snake with 1carp at 9 lbs, 3at 6 lbs and loads of smaller mixed fish. Tracey Gray, Edinburgh, had 2 crucian carp, 4 mirror and 1 roach and her on Ryan caught 3 mirror carp, 2 tench, 2 roach and 1 perch.

It has been another good fishing week up at the coarse ponds with plenty of good catches and enjoyable days with the weather.

Bill Bateman, Dollar had 32 fish, mixed bag off the Snake on Friday and he says " the last 4 outings I have had here have been the best fishing he has had in his life". It is good to hear that all Andrew's hard work is giving pleasure to some!

Ricky Rosser, Coatbridge, had 65 lbs of mixed carp with 3 carp weighing 27 lbs.These were all on pellet, maggots and worms. Young Ewan McIntosh from Comrie had 4.1/2 lb tench, 2 lb bream and 2 mirror carp at 1.1/2 lbs. Aaron Hain, Glenrothes, had 10 mixed fish, Alex Neil, Tullibody, had 14 carp for 40 lbs the biggest 7lbs 8oz on the Midton Lake and Robert Harper, Motherwell, had 32 carp and 1 tench for 50 lbs on Midton. Adrian Halgarth, Braco had 100 lb plus of carp, tench and 2 barbell at 3 lbs on the Snake all on a waggler rod, which he was just trying out.Lucky first time! Adrian Sneddon, Kirkcaldy, Midton had 10 common carp, 11 mirror, 2 rudd, 2 leather and 1 perch on Midton. John Dingwall, Balerno, had a great day catching a good mixture of fish on the Snake, Lee Rose Snr, Perth, had 30 mixed fish on the Snake with a carp at 6 lbs and Lee Jnr. had 20 mixed fish up to 3 lbs, all on the Snake.

TONY BALL'S OPEN MATCH on the Snake. 1st Mark Cook 39 lbs 3 oz, 2nd Paul Joyce 24 lbs 7 oz and 3rd Tony Ball 15 lbs 7 oz.

Week Ending 24th May 2009

It has been a good fishing week up at the coarse ponds with the water warming up despite the changeable weather. On Sunday Jack Dow from Dundee had a great day catching several 2-3 lb carp, one at 6lbs 8oz and just before he was to leave he caught a mirror carp at 17lbs 8oz all on carp pellets. Last Friday in the pouring rain and wind Tony Ball, Kirkintilloch had a great day catching 6 Barbell for 15 lbs, carp at 8lbs a 6 lb orfe, lots of chub and lots of 8 - 10 "carp for a total weight of more than 115 lbs. Best day's fishing he has ever had. He was back on Thursday Tony and had 75 lbs of carp on pellet and corn on peg 18 on the Snake Lake.

J Hopkins, Bathgate, had 9 carp with one at 8lbs 4oz, Laurence Compton- Howe, Blackford had 52 lbs of mixed fish including a 8lb tench, Andy Knox, Denny last Monday had 14 carp and 1 perch and Liz & Steve McCallum, Wishaw, had a good fishing holiday with Steve catching 12 fish best a 10lb mirror carp on halibut and corn. On one day Liz had a mixed bag of 37 lbs best 6lb 2oz mirror carp and on another day she took 9 fish - best a 4lb mirror carp all from the Midton Lake. Mark Gleeve, Auchterarder, had 75lb of fish on peg 15 on the Snake, Jim Green, Falkirk, in difficult weather conditions had 16 carp from the Snake, Alex Neilson, Portobello had 6 tench 3 - 4 lbs, 3 carp and a 4lb golden orfe and Bill Bateman, Dollar, had 30lbs of fish with a 6lb and 4lb tench on pellet, corn and maggot from the Midton Lake. On another day he had 10 fish for 25lbs. Steven Myles, Linlithgow, had a brilliant day on Midton catching fish for 56lbs 4oz including a 5lb common carp, a 9lb ghostie and an 8lb mirror and on another visit he took 71 lbs including a 9lb common carp, an 8lb ghostie and a 7lb mirror. Mark Wilson, Crieff, had 6 carp the best 4lb on corn and swim stem ground bait and Alec Neil, Tullibody had 7 carp and a tench on a hair-rig, with corn and swim stem. On Sunday the Edinburgh & Lothian Carp Club had a match fished in very windy conditions and the top three were 1st - Andrew Ferney with 24lbs 5oz, 2nd - Andy Roberts, 23 lbs 10oz and 3rd - David Mathews, 22lbs 6oz.

Week Ending 10th May 2009

The sun we had on Monday helped to warm up the water and the fish have been feeding well with plenty being caught and returned. On Monday Ian Clark, Aberdeen, got a lot of sunand 3 carp - the best 3lbs 8oz and his son Connor had 1 carp at 3lbs 8oz. Geoff Monks and Mel Muddler, Kirkcaldy had an excellent day catching 70 - 90 carp, etc each on the Snake to maggots, worm, sweetcorn with sonu bait mix for ground bait. Bill Bateman, Dollar, had a good day on the Snake catching 32 lbs of a good mixture of fish and several skimmers from peg 50. Bill Bateman and Geoff Monks both had 130 lbs of carp, roach, bream and chub on soft hooking pellets close in on the Snake. Craig McDermitt, Haddington, had 25 lbs of bream, roach, carp, tench, rudd and crucians on the Midton Lake, Steven Myles, Linlithgow had 27 carp, 1 tench average 2 - 3 lbs, 3 common carp at 3 lbs and a ghostie at 4 lbs, total weight.

Week Ending 10th May 2009

The water is starting to warm up slightly so we are hoping for some warmer days which as the coarse fish prefer to the cold.Worms, maggots, soft hooking pellets, plenty of ground baits and feeding pellets are all catching fish.

Ian Whitson, Motherwell had 22 lbs of carp and rudd, David MCaulay had 29lbs of carp and rudd, Steven Myles from Linlithgow and his son had 13 carp on the Midton with a 4lb Mirror and a 3lb common all on sweetcorn and Greig Stokes from Glasgow had 35 carp and 1 tench. Ian Stewart had 12 Carp with a 7 lb Ghostie on Midton, Les White, Dunfermline had 4 roach and 1 carp at 4lbs 8oz .On Sunday Ian Stewart from Coatbridge had 5 tench, a 2lb barbell and 4 chub all on maggots, Robert Murray, Coatbridge had 15 fish comprising barbell, tench, golden tench, crucians, carp and chub on maggots and Gary Owens had 6 carp between 2lbs 8oz and 3 lbs on pellet and sweetcorn on the feeder. Alistair Lawrence had 5 golden orfe between 4 and 5lbs and 1 tench at 4lbs on

worms and Mike Brown had 1 tench at 5 lbs, 2 at 3lbs and a small rudd all on worms.

With the warmer weather last week the fish are certainly moving more and looking for food. There are lots of different ground baits to try and tempt the fish with, as well as maggots, worms, and pellets. Stephen Marshall, Linlithgow, had 5 mirror and 1 common carp around 2 lbs and a 3 lb common on Midton, Steven Myles, Linlithgow, had 4 carp at 2 lbs, a 3 lb common and a 5 lb Ghostie and Sinclair Yeats from Falkirk had 6 fish for 19lbs 8oz and his wife Carol had 3 fish for 11lbs 8oz on the Snake Lake. Danny Reilly from Dundee had 1 carp, Brian Lynn, Glasgow, had carp and tench up to 4 lbs for a total weight of 40 lbs on Midton, Andy Knox Stirling had 8 carp for 16 lbs while Cheryl and young Robert had 17 carp for 35 lbs and enjoyed a great day on Midton and Jim Tripney, Perth had 20 lbs of fish with a 3 lb tench and 4lb 8oz carp on Midton. Mark Wildish from Perth had 15 lbs of various fish on Midton and Dave Harban, Leuchars, enjoyed a good day's fishing taking 4 carp 2-3 lbs, 2 tench 4-5 lbs and 4 carp around 5 lbs on Midton.

Week Ending Up to 30th March

The Edinburgh & Lothian CAC had to endure a cold wind to catch fish in their match on Sunday and the match was won by David Matthew with a catch weighing 12lbs 13oz. Also doing well were members John Carol 7 lbs, Graham Carol 3lbs 6oz and Jack McArdle 3lbs.

Last Sunday, Brian Hewitt had 4 carp and a load of small chub on the Snake and on Midton he had 9 carp for approx 25lbs. - the best 5 lbs on corn and pellet feeder. On Midton Lake, Ian Whitison from Motherwell had 38 lbs, David McCauley, Motherwell had 40 lbs, Steven Myles, Linlithgow had 6 carp averaging 2 lbs - 1 common at4lbs 8oz .1/2 lbs., 1 at 7lbs and a mirror carp of 6lbs. John Green from Whitecross had 3 carp for 10lbs on Midton, Simon Murray from Aberdeen had 16 carp for 45 lbs., the best 6 lbs., on Midton, Gary Owens, Kirkcaldy, had 17 carp and 1 tench for 52 lbs., using corn and pellet on a hair rig on Midton andRichard Bennett had 2 carp, 1 tench and a large golden orfe on Midton.

Week Ending 23rd March 2009

Last week started off with great excitement on Monday when Dave Richardson from Cumbernauld caught a 12lb 2 oz mirror carp and then fell off his seat trying to net a huge 17lb 6oz specimen both caught on soft pellet from the Midton.Owner, Elizabeth Jackson says "It is great to see these fish coming out in good condition after the long winter”. Dave's wife Judith caught a tench about 3 lbs.

Roy McLaren from Denny had 7 chub and a 5lb common carp on the Snake Lake and Stirling University students had a great outing with Mark Mitchell taking a 4lb mirror carp and a 3lb tench on maggots; Christian Stensli had a 3lb common carp and a 2lb tench on sweetcorn and Sebastian Schmatz had a 3lb mirror carp on maggots.

Paul Cathcart from Leuchars caught a 10lb mirror carp and a few smaller ones, Bryan Hewitt, Hamilton, had 10 carp for 28lbs; a common at 6 lbs and a mirror at 5lbs 8oz from the Midton Lake - all taken on pellet and corn feeder.

Frank Lurg from Dundee took 6 chub, a tench and a carp from the Snake Lake, Ian Stewart caught 5 carp and 10 chub and GeoffLow Edinburgh & Lothian CA fishing on the Midton took 3 carp on corn. Last Friday Bill Bateman from Dollar was delighted to be out fishing again after a long illness and had 4 chub and 1 roach on worm from the Snake Lake; Rick Rosser, Coatbridge, had 20 lb of carp on maggot and sweetcorn and Tony Hayler, Falkirk, Midton had 12 carp and 4 tench for 30 lbs from the Midton Lake.

Week Ending 15th March 2009

The coarse fish have been taking red and white maggots, sweetcorn, pellets and green ground bait. Dan Hewins from Falkirk had a 4lb barbell, various carp and several ide on the Snake Lake. Steven Myles had 10 carpall around 2 lbs each and a 4 lb mirror and a 4 lb common, young Connor Clark from Aberdeen had his personal best common carp at 4lbs 12oz and Ian Clark had 1 carp. Mick Alett had 4 carp and Colin Harris from Carnoustie had 6 chub and 3 roach.

Tony Ball from Kirkintilloch had a great day's fishing last week on the Midton Lake where he caught 25 carp and 1 rudd for 42lbs 8oz all on sweetcorn. The fish varied in size and were all in very good condition.

It has been really been good to see the coarse fish being caught again after a long cold winter and they are currently being taken on maggots, worms and pellets.

Laurence Crompton-Howe from Blackford had about 30 small chub on the outside of the Snake Lake, David Gray and Barry Lambert had 4 chub, 2 barbell and 2 mirror Carp, Mr. Richardson from Cumbernauld caught 2 carp for 9lbs – best 7lbs and Jim Duncan from Stirling had 5 carp – best 4lbs, 6 lbs, and 7 lbs, a golden orfe about 4 lb and 1 rudd. Young Ryan White had a 6 lb carp on a castor fished on a size 20 hook and his grandfather Les White had 3 chub on a size 22 hook. Lee Rose Jnr. from Perth had 10 carp, Bryan Hewitt; Hamilton had 19 carp, 3 tench all for 32 lbs on feeder pellet from the Midton Lake.

Week Ending 14th December 2008

The water has been free of ice and is fishing very well. This week the weather kept changing so that some days there were a few stands free of ice so there were a few hardy fishermen about who enjoyed some good fishing. The flies used have been Yellow Dancer, Pink, Damsel, Cat and various Fritz.When the ice cleared there was plenty of fish moving on the surface.

 

Hugh Moore from Dunfermline had8 fish for 24lbs 8oz – best 7lbs 8oz on aPinkie and a Hot Head Damsel, Bill Dawson, Dollar, 9 fish 21lbs on a Mini Cat, Garry Mercer, Kelty, 5 fish 12lbs 8oz on a Damsel and Hector Wilson, Bannockburn, 4 fish 11lbs on a Cut Throat Cat. Last but not least Hamish Carmichael from Alloa used a Yellow Dancer to bag 3 fish weighing 8lbs.

Jack Whitfield from St Ninians (13 years old) caught a 7lbs 8oz rainbow on a Damsel – his heaviest fish to date and last Saturday Robert Fitzpatrick from Kilsyth, on his first visit here, caught a 9 lb rainbow in his 4 fish for 15 lbs – all taken on a Damsel Nymph. Also doing well were Bob Gray from Dunning with 3 fish for 7lbs 8oz on a Damsel, Andrew Gray, Dunning,3 fish 5lbs 8oz on a Hot Head Damsel, Sid Marshall, Cowie, 4 fish 8lbs on aYellow Dancer and John Stevenson, Cowie, 4 fish 9lbs 4oz on a Yellow Dancer. S Crawford from Stirling took 4 fish for 8lbs on a Hot Head Damsel, A Kemp, Stirling, 4 fish 9lbs 8oz on a Hot Head Damsel, G Connell,Auchterarder, 5 fish 11lbs 8oz on a Pinkie and Scott Haddow, Falkirk, used a Damsel to bag 5 fish for 12lbs 4oz.

There is nothing much to report this week due to the few fishing but the fishery will be open all winter for the anglers who want to brave the weather.

The match held last Sunday of the Central Scotland Carp Association had a good turnout with Brian Hewitt winning with 18lbs 5oz. Drew McCluskey was second with 12lbs 8oz and third place was taken by Willie McMillan with a bag of 6lbs 7oz. The Ayrstrike Match was won by Drew McCluskey with 5kg 980g, C Paton came second with 3kg 980g and D Matthew was third placed with a bag of 2kg 900g. Ricky Rossier had 14 lbs of mixed fish of the Midton Lake on worms and Tony Hayler had 20 lbs

Last Sunday Steph Hunter won a small match with 44lbs 11oz and Tony Ball was second with 42 lbs 10 oz on the Snake Lake. Dave Olley had 15 lbs on the Snake Lake, Jim Duncan from Stirling had a good day catching 7 tench and 2 carp plus a carp at 7lbs 4oz on the Midton Lake, Brian Docherty and Cumbernauld had 7 carp for 15 lbs on the Midton Lake. Ian Clark from Aberdeen and his son Connor had 11 fish including a 4 lb mirror for Ian and Connor (11) had a beautiful golden orfe for 4 lbs.Ricky Rossier had 40 lbs of mirror and common carp on the Midton Lake using 3 maggots topped with strawberry juice, Stewart Rae had 14 lbs of mixed fish and Margaret Rae had 13lbs 8oz of mixed fish on the tip rod, hair rig – pellets and Sandy McKay, Bellshill, had 57 lbs on the Snake Lake. On the Snake Lake Roy Rooney had 18lbs and Willie McMillan took 15lbs.

After last Sunday's match it has seemed quiet this week but another open match is to be held here on the 28th September - tickets are available at £20 each and there is a £650 pools payout based on 50 tickets being sold.

A wide variety of baits are being used including maggots, worms, castors, with various ground baits and sweetcorn. Laurence Crompton-Howe from Blackford had a mixed bag of carp, perch and roach for 10lbs on the Snake Lake. Roy McLaren, Denny had a mixed bag of 14lbs on the Snake Lake, on Wednesday William Eldrige had 6 carp for 43 lbs on the Midton Lake, Jim Craig had 26 lbs of mostly mirror carp including a 7lb mirror carp and Adrian Hallgarth had 30 lb of carp on Thursday. Ricky Rossier had a 10 lb mirror carp and a tench at 6 lbs plus 14 other carp, Paul Aitkinson, Aberdeen, on his first visit on Saturday had 10 carp up to 4lbs and Tony Hayler, Falkirk, also yesterday had 6 mirror carp best 5 lbs, one tench and one roach.
