Cardiff Bay offers the chance to fish for some good chub, roach, perch, carp, rudd, bream and pike. Permits also include fishing on the Taff at Hamadryad Park from Grangemoor Park to Sanitoriuam Park on the Ely.

There are 4 platforms for disabled anglers on the Ely just above Penarth Bridge.

Also sea fishing of the Northern end on the barrier wall.

Permits from the Harbour Authority, Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre, Channel View Leisuure Centre and local tackle shops. Day, week and annual avaibale at very reasonable prices.

An 8 lake complex with 4 coarse lakes and 3 carp lakes there is also a Spring Lake which is with the holiday accomodation. The Ponds and Lakes are:

Lodge Lake, 5 acres has 12 swims. Stocked with quality fish, AE and Simmo carp that have grown on now with 250 in the high doubles, 60 are 20+ and 7 over 30lbs. Best fish a 37 pounder.

Carp Pond, 1.5 acres. with 3 large pegs, 2 doubles and a single, all for bivvies. Carp only with lots of mid teens and a number of 20 +.

Horseshoe, carp, similar details to carp pond.

Willow pond, 15 platforms with good paths makes this acccesible to disabled angers fishing for F1, skimmers and chub. 600 fish will keep you busy.

Match Pond, 40 pegs, heavily stocked with mixed coarse with carp and skimmers added recently. Good pole water with a centre island. Gravel path access to pegs.

Bridge Pond, 30 pegs. Mixed coarse with common, mirror and ghost carp, bream, F1s, chub, tench, roach and barbel.

Glamorgan Angling Club


Glamorgam AC have an enviable portfolio of fishing in South Wales boosted by the recovery of so many of the rivers blighted for generations by pollution. Fishing for both coarse and game fish they have 8 stillwater venues and access to 5 rivers.

The stillwaters are:

Barry Pond, 2 ponds: Carols Pond holding tench, crucians, bream, roach, rudd, chub, perch common and mirror carp and Sues Lake common and mirror carp, tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch, pike and eels.

Bishops Pond, a 2.5 acre farm pond recently refurbished with new pegs. Carp, pike, perch, bream, roach, tench, rudd, eels.

Cardiff Bay, carp, bream, roach, rudd, chub, perch, mullet, pike, eels

Gribbles at Llantwit Major. A half acre fishery with roach, rudd, tench, crucians, bream, perch, eels. There is a well made path which might give some access to disabled anglers.

Llanthrithydd Lake near Bonvilston, carp, bream, roach, rudd, dace, perch, tench, eels.

Pysgodlyn Mawr, an SSSI which is accessible only by purchasing a key. Grass carp, carp, perch, tench, crucians, rudd, roach, bream, eels.

St-Y-Nyll, Top Pond, Peterston Spuer Ely. Pike, rudd, tench, perch, crucians, chub, eels.

Treose Pond, Bridgend. A popular club fishery with good facilities including 5 platforms for disabled anglers, 2 family platforms, 32 bivvie stands, and toilets with facilities for disabled. Carp, bream, roach, rudd, perch, tench, eels.

The rivers are:

River Ely, 39k miles long rising in the hill near Tonypandy. Chub, roach, brown trout grayling and eels.

River Taff, salmon, sea trout, brown trout, grayling, some big, chub and barbel and dace, roach, perch and eels.

River Trothy, chub, dace, roach, gudgeon, eels.

Usk, chub, dace, roach, gudgeon, eels.

Wye chub, dace, perch, pike, roach, bleak, gudgeon, eels, barbel. No Night fishing.
