Canals Trust


The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to fish on an impressive amount of water throughout England and Wales (for just £20).

Eye Ketleby Lakes


Part of a holiday complex near Melton Mowbray there are 9 lakes 7 of which (2 to 7 plus Parkland Lakae) are available on a day ticket basis. Lakes 1 and Kingfisher are residents only.

Lake 2, acres, 24 pegs, holds carp to 30lbs with many twenties, there are also bream and barbel. Parking at pegs in dry conditions, level grass access with toilets including facilities for disabled nearby.

Lake 3, 1.5 acres, 38 pegs with common and mirror carp to 25lbs plus bream, roach, rudd, chub.

Lake 4, 21 pergs, 2 acres, crucians, common and mirror carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd, perch. Parking at pegs in dry conditions, level grass access with toilets including facilities for disabled nearby.

Lake 5, 26 pegs, 2 acres, crucians, common and mirror carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd and specimen perch to 5lbs

Lake 6, 16 pegs, 1 acre, crucians, common and mirror carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd.

Lake 7, 60 pegs, crucians, common and mirror carp, bream, tench, roach, rudd.

Parkland, 23 pegs, 4.2 acres common and mirror carp to 24lbs, average is the 17 to 22lb range.

Leicestershire County Council Parks.


Leicester County Council offer season tickets to lakes in their parks, to county residents. These tickets allow you to fish in waters not available to Day Ticket holders.There is night fishing option.

Other ticket options include Adult, Senior, Junior, Blue Badge and Family.

The lakes are;

Watermead Park, Syston- John Merrick's Lake, Lears Lake and Lily Pond. Lear and Lily offer day tickets. Bream, carp, perch, pike, roach, tench. Snibston Grange, 2 lakes, 40 pegs available for matches, book through the council. The lakes have carp to 20lbs+, roach, perch, tench. Some facilities for the disabled, with parking by the lakes. Shortheath Water


Located near Swadlincote the fishery has 24 pegs with caro to 25lbs plus rudd, roach tench and bream.

There are 3 concrete disabled pegs with parking adjacent.

This is a holiday complex with a bistro but day tickets can be bought from the bailiff on the bank.

Temple Farm Fishing Pool


The fishery, near Hickley, is a 1.5 acre pool with a central island. The surrounding banks are well cared for with level grassland to the waters edge making it accessible to people with mobility problems or wheelchair users.

The lake has good stocks of carp, bream, roach and tench. Day tickets can be bought on the bank. Nearby parking and loos.

Whetstone Gorse Fishery


A fishery near Countesthorpe with 2 lakes one a carp specimen pool stocked with common, mirror and ghost carp while the others is a mixed fishery with tench, bream, crucians, mirror, carp, barbel, rudd and roach.

There are pegs for disabled anglers located near the car park.

Eyebrook Trout Fishery


Near Caldicott is one of the top English fisheries. 400 acres and 4 miles of bank are available fishing this renowned top of the water fishery for rainbows, blues and native brown trout.

Built in 1940, Eyebrook has matured well. There are 26 boats for hire and 3 wheelyboats. There are season tickets and day tickets available at reasonable prices which make Eyebrook great value for money.

In the spring they recommend using nymphs like Dawl Bach, black epoxy buzzer as well as lures like tadpoles, cats whisker and Fritz. For the summer buzzers are the buzz, emerald green or ginger, plus hoppers, daddies and emergers. In autumn there are large shoals of fry so go for minkies, zonkers and floating fry plus imitations for corixa and shrimp.
