Canals Trust

The Canals Trust has over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Wanders Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).

Argal Reservoir

Near Penryn. A 65 acre reservoir with quality carp to over 40lbs plus perch, pike to mid twenties , bream to mid teens, tench, rudd and roach. 24 swims.

Open 24 hours all year. There is a cafe and toilets including disabled facilities and wheel chair accessible platforms next to the car park. It is also a dog freindly fishery.

Near Perranporth is a 4 acre fishery holding carp up to 20lbs, tench, roach, perch and eels fishing from dawn to dusk fishing all year.

Bude Canal

Run by the Bude canal Association offers fishing for roach, rudd, dace, perch, tench, carp and bream on thier 1.5 mile stretch. There even occasional brown trout.

The Association also has a lake at Whalesborough with carp, bream, tench and roach.

There is vehicle access to the canal with parking and the Association has installed a number of purpose built platforms for disabled anglers.

Day Tickets for the canal from the Post Office in Bude and for the lake from the Weir Cafe which is located on the lakeside.

There is local membership and associate membership for folk living outwith an 18 mile radius of Bude.

Dutson Water

On the A 388 near Launceston offers fishing for mirror, common and crucian carp, tench, bream, golden orfe and rudd. Good parking and toilets Call 01566 776456 for bookings.

Gwinear Fishing

Located near Newquay this 2 lake fishery offers something for pleasure fishers and something for specimen hunters.

Specimen Lake, with 40 carp in the 15 to 20lb range, 33 over 20lbs and 9 over 30lbs there is sometning to excite especially since the biggest fish is over 40lbs. Night fishing allowed but must be booked in advance Call 01637 210045.

Match / Pleasure Lake, permits from the on site tackle shop. Carp to 16lbs plus bream, tench, roach, rudd and perch. 3 years ago the lake was stocked with 1250 carp in the 3 to 6lb range, in Scottish parlance it's "hoachin wi fish".

Kernow Coarse Fishery

Located near Hayle, Kernow has 2 lakes the largest having 7 species of carp and silvers. The carp include common, mirror, ghost, leather, grass and kio carp most to doubles but some to 20+. There are also crucians. The smaller lake has been redeveloped to make it more acessible and family friendly providing for wheechair access and other facilities.

Magwan Porth Fisheries

Recently renovated and restocked this fishing is more a pleasure fishery for now though no doubt the fish will grow on well to good sizes.Two pools:

Match Pool, a mixed fishery where 100lb bags cn be achieved with carp to 12lbs.

Horseshoe, stocked with over 100 carp in the 2 to 3lb range and growing.

New access paths and platforms have been installed ensuring suitability for disabled anglers.

Millbrook Lake nr Torpoint

An old reservoir of 1 acre on the Rame Peninsula offering quality fishing in a place of great natural beauty. A mixed fishery with good perch and tench, bream, roach, rudd, ghost and crucian carp plus commons to 25lb, ghosts tp 22lbs and mirrors to 30lbs.

Located in Par, on a caravan park, the fishery lake has 27 pegs all with solid platforms. 1 to 5 are next to the car park and one platform is for wheelchair users.

The lake is stocked with tench, perch, mirror and common carp, rudd, roach, bream and crucians and the occasional brown trout crops up.

South West Lakes Trust

SW Lakes Trust have 12 lakes and fishing in Christchurch Harbour including the lower Stout and Avon. Some big fish waters. Many fisheries are dog friendly, all have toilet facilities and some even have showers.

A 7 acre lake near St Ives that has under gone stocking over the last 10 years ensuring that there is now a good head of carp. Expect to find many carp to the 20s and hope for one of the 30 plus fish. There are also roach, rudd and bream to 7lbs.

Toilets on site and a roadway around the lake allows you to drive to your swim.

Lower Tamar Lake

Located near Sutcombe this 35 acre lake is home to Biggles the 48lb 15 oz Cornish record carp. Other carp go to mid 30s, bream to 6, perch to 4,roach to 2lbs. There also bream, rudd, tench, perch and eels.

Upper Tamar Lake

81 acres open all year 24/7 with night sessions.Carp to over 40lb with many in the 20s (2018 some 60 plus 20s were stocked). Big bags of roach and bream to be had as well as rudd, perch in the 2 to 5lb range even eels to over 5lbs.

Has done some stalwart work to offer access to 35 beats on Dartmoor Fishery and the East and West Dart with their fishing token scheme. The tokens can also be used on South West Lake Trust waters and on Passport Schemes throughout the UK.
