The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.
The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).
Aldin Grange Lakes
5 lakes, 3 for coarse fish and 2 for game fish.
The lakes are;
Blackbird, Woodpeckers and Match Pool for coarse fishing including common, mirror, ghost, crucian and F1 carp plus tench, perch, rudd, roach, bream, chub, ofre, barbel.
For trout there are Skylark and Swallow stocked with rainbows, brown trout and blues for 1 to 15lbs.
There is a lodge with toilets and all of the lakes are accessible for disabled anglers.

Near Washington consists of 3 lakes, 2 mixed fisheries and a carp lake. There are good facilities for anglers with disabilities.

Carrs Angling Lakes
Located near Stockton on Tees in the village of Carlton consists of 4 lakes;
Lake 1 at 2 acres is stocked with carp to 26lbs, tench, bream, golden and green tench, roach, bream, skimmers, ide, rudd, barbel, chub and golden orfe.
Lake 2 similar to lake 1 with big carp.
Halcyon, is a pleasure lake with carp to 10lbs plus tench, chub, barbel and ide.
Silver Lake is full of silvers plus tench and crucians.

Chester le Street AA
Have extensive 10 mile is fishing on the river Wear for salmon and sea trout. Fishing on much of the river is for members and guests only but the membership charge is very reasonable.
There is a stretch in Chester Le Street Park for day ticket holder where there are 9 platforms with number 1, just above the wier, reserved for disabled anglers.
In addition to some excellent sea trout fishing the waters hold barbel to double figures, chub, bream, dace, gudgeon, perch, roach, pike and grayling.

Eden Grange Carp Fishery
Located near Shildon on a 12 acre stite this fishery has 4 lakes:
Traditional Pond with carp bream, chub and F1s.
Runs Pool at 1 acre it has 8 pegs with carp 1 to 25lbs, tench and F1s.
Match Pool has carp, ide, chub and F1s.
Catfish Lake with cats 4 to 40lbs.
Best to book. There is a cafe on site and toilets including disabled facilities. Most of the pegs are accessible for disabled anglers and vehicles can be driven to some pegs by Blue Badge holders.

Finchale Abbey Fishings
Two miles of fishing on the Wear from one mile above to one mile below the Abbey for salmon, sea trout, brown trout, grayling with some first class course fish available, good fly water.

In the hills above Guisborough just 10 minutes from Scaling Dam Lock wood Beck has a native stock of roach and perch supplimented in 2017 with the addition of 1,500 skimmers, tench and crucians.

TCR Hub in Barnard Castle
TCR Hub is a community project running many programmes. They have a lake stocked with carp which is available on a day ticket basis.
No fishing when canoe or kayak session are on. If planning to fish on Sunday you must call ahead and book.
The facility has been designed for accessiblilty and has good paths and modern platforms.

Willington District Angling Club
Just 6 miles from Durham the club has the whole six miles of the Wear Valley District Council waters on the Wear. They also have acces to the Ferryham Association Croxdale water on the Browney and Wear.
The water is split between parts suited to spinning and worm and some good stretches for fly fishing. The Wear has a great reputation for its salmon and sea trout runs. There are also good brown trout and grayling.
For coarse fishing the club has "Sendom Seen", "Never Seen" Todhills Bank and Byers Green ponds near Newfield and Byers Green. Perch, roach, bream, tench some carp and pike.
