Canals Trust

The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).

City of London


The City controls fishing on 24 lakes and ponds in Epping Forest 3 of which have had special works carried out to ensure they are accessible to disabled anglers and the less able. The lakes and ponds are:

Balwins Pond, Bell Coomon Pond, South Blackweir Pond, Bullrush Pond, Butlers Retreat, Higham Park Lake, Johnstons Pond, Knighton Land, Reigh Lake, Lower Forest Lake, Oak Hill South Park, Ornamental Waters, Perch Pond, Pizzle Pit, South Potato Pond, Staples Pond, Theydon Bois Pond, Wake Valley Pond, Hawcock Ponds, Warren Pond.

Earls Path Pond, Hollow Pond, Connaught Water have the accessibility improvementsfor the disabled.

Looks like all you need is your rod license, only fish in permitted waters and the closed season does apply.

Clapham Common


2 lakes Eagle and Mount holding good stock of fish including common and mirror carp bream, eels, perch, pike, roach, rudd and tench. Permits can be bought online from Lambeth.gov.uk/forms/apply-for-a-fishing-permit

Croydon Lake


A 25.5 acre mixed fishery in a public park with toilets including facilities for disabled persons. Permits are available on site on a day or season basis. The close season applies.

Fairlops Water


Fairlops in Ilford has 2 lakes, a 3 acre specimen carp lake with 30lb+ fish. There is a larger 38 acre lake with big pike and carp (30+) plus roach, bream and roach, (big pike need to eat).

Day tickets and membership avaiable. There is a platform for diasabled anglers.

River Thames


Free fishing on the river (where there is public access and you have a rod license) from Staines Bridge down to Teddington Lock. Fish, various, who knows you might get a salmon nowadays.

Thamesmead Town Angling Club


Thamesmean Town AC have fishing on 3 lakes:

The lakes are accessible to disabled anglers although there are no pegs specifically set up for them. There are no loos on site.

Walthamstow Reservoirs


Walthamstow Reservoirs consists of 9 reservoirs 6 of which are coarse venues plus there is the Copperstream. The water in the stream is, off course, immaculate even though as they often say, London water has passed through the human body 7 times! Does something for the fish though there are some crackers.

The reserviors are numbers 1, 2 and 3, Lower Maynard, Lochwood and West Warwick Permits from Thames Water, season and day, concessions.
