The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.
The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).

Church Gardens Coarse Fishery
An attractive fishery in Bradshaw, well cared for with good stocks of small carp to keep you busy. Good tench plus perch, roach, bream and skimmers. There are also some big carp to 30+.

Clifton Coutry Park
Fishing on Clifton Marina in the 100 care Clifton Country Park on the banks of the river Irwell. Permits cost buttons and what do you get for a small outlay - carp to 40lb, tench and bream to 13, big roach, and pike. Not bad.
You can off course drive there, there is good parking or you can jump on a No 22 bus. On site there is a Visitor Centre, cafe, toilets including facilities for disabled. The fishing is accessible, a 100 yard push from the car park.

Debdale Angling Society have the fishing on the reservoirs in Debdale Park near Hollingworth Lake. There are pike to 20lbs plus, perch, bream to l8bs, big roach. Disturbing stories about this place, bit rough.

GOSJA Angling Club
Based in Stockport they have fishing at Heaton Mersey Pool and two pools leased from Stockport Council, Pools 2 and 3 at Edgeley.
The Edgeley pools have roach, bream, tench, rudd, crucians, mirror and common carp, pike in Number 2 and all of the above but for pike in Number 3.
Heaton Mersey has roach, tench, mirror and common carp, bream gudgeon and perch.
Day tickets available for Number 3 and Heaton Mersey, try Edgeley Sport and Tackle for tickets.
In the centre of the park is the Overflow Lake, a boating lake that holds carp, bream, roach and tench. Permits from the bailiff who comes round. There are good paths around the lake and toilets on the bank, it would be suitable for disabled anglers.

A sizeable lake near Littleborough in a per run by Rochdale Council. There is good fishing for bream, carp, tench, perch and roach, no closed season.

Leigh and District Angling Association
The Association control the fishing on a number of waters including:
Bickershaw Specimen Lake a 10 acre fishery with carp to 20lb plus, bream to doubles.
Bickershaw Pool, a mixed coarse fishery with roach, bream, pike, tench and carp.
Pennington Lake has large bream and pike, roach tench and carp.
Fir Tree Flash, hold roach, bream, carp, pike, bream and tench.
Firs Park Lake, mixed coarse with roach, bream, perch, tench and carp.
Queens Abram, a mixed coarse fishery with roach, bream, perch, tench and carp.
The club also has 2.5 miles of fishing on the Leeds and Liverpool canal, Leigh branch for perch, roach, carp, bream, pike and tench.
Membership is very inexpensive and while there are day tickets it is worth just joining if you expect to do a bit of fishing. No day tickets for Bickershaw Specimen Lake or Pennington Flash.

This attractive site site has 10 acres of fishing water made up of the main lake and a canal style water. The main lake has carp to 30+ and pike to 20 + plus bream, perch roach and tench. The canal water has carp, bream, roach, perch and tench. Day tickets from the Lakeside Cafe, buy before you start to fish, costs double if payed for on the bank.
There is a kiosk selling hot and cold snacks and drinks as well as the cafe. Toilets with facilities for disabled visitors and designated parking for disabled.

Stockport And District Anglers Federation
The Federation have fishing on a number of still waters and on 4 miles of the river Goyt. The stillwaters are:
Etherow Country Park fishing on Compstall Lodge. The water is divided in 2 by a causeway creating a canal style water and the main lake. Big carp, shoals of good bream and silvers. Located up in the hills near Wardle this reservoir of approximately100 acres has some big pike also roach, bream and tench. They recon it's best in the summer as it is quite high up and fishes best on the far bank away for the car park.
