Canals Trust


The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).

Tyne Anglers Alliance


Formed in the early 1970s to save the former Tyne and Wear Council waters for public use TAA has fishing on:

Killingworth Lakes, 2 lakes large and small for coarse fish. Disabled access on the south bank of large lake.

Throckley Reigh coarse fishing in the Tyne River Country Park.

River Tyne, double bank fishing in the Tyne River Country Park

Clubs can affilliate to TAA giving them access to these water.

Bigwater Angling Club


The club is a member of the Tyneside Anglers Alliance (See below). They have fishing on a number of waters in Northumberland and even one in Cumbria, they are:

Killingworth Lakes , 2 lakes with carp, bream, roach, tench, perch crucians, rudd and pike (closed season for pike applies) There is wheelchair access along the south side of the biggest lake.

Marden Quarry, mirror carp to doubles, roach, rudd, tench, bream, perch, crucians.

High Stand, in Cumbria, 2 ponds - Mill Pond 5 to 15ft deep, roach, chub, perch and some tench and carp; Skelley Pond 6 to 20ft deep, roach and perch with carp and tench to specimen size. Day Tickets available from Inglewood Caravan Park nearby.

Dissington Pond near Pontiland, tench, roach, rudd, perch, bream, ide, crucians, mirror and common carp.

Throckley Lakes, 2 lakes stocked with roach, rudd, carp, tench, perch, crucians and pike (closed season for pike applies). Day tickets from Killingworth Leisure Centre or the White Swan Centre.

River Tyne at Newburn, fishing for chub, raoch, dace, eels and flounders. There are also salmon, sea trout and brown trout. No slamon before 16th June. The fishing is from Tyne Riverside Country Park down stream to Newcastle.

Wyden Burn, as a member of the Tyne Anglers Alliance there are 6 free tickets daily for Bigwater AC on this fishery. Non members can get day tickets from GOJO and Top Tackle in Hexam.

Dewent Reservoir


Derwent Reservoir is just off the A68 near Consett. Stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout and blues the reservoir alss has good stocks of excellent roach.

Bait or fly fishing allowed on the south bank and dam wall. Fly only on the north bank. Trout to 20lbs have been caught.

Fishing from the dam wall is allowed and a platform for anglers with disabilities has been instralled on the south side of the dam. Ground baiting is now allowed.

There is a tackle shop, cafe and toilets are available with good path ways in places for wheelchair visitors.

Felton Fence Fisheries


Located near Morpeth this family run venue consists of 4 lakes:

Fence Lake stocked with carp

Badger, Mallard and Fox are all well stocked with carp, tench, roach, bream, gudgeon, perch, rudd and golden rudd.

There are a range of facilities on site including a fishing lodge, food served, tackle shop and loos.

Fontburn Reservoir


Closed temporarily in 2018 due to low water the fishery has stocks of trout and quality roach. Fishing with fly and bait allowed.

There are platforms suitable for disabled anglers on the north shore.

Hebron Lakes Fishery


This attractive fishery is located in wooland near the village of Heron, just off the A1.

The lake is a mixed fishery with skimmers, bream, roach, perch, small crucians, rudd and gudgeon. There are platforms suitable for disabled anglers. Day tickets available on site.

Leaze Park Angling Association


Within the Magpie's football ground within hailing range, Leaze Park AA have the fishing on this city centre water. A mixed fishery with roach, tench, bream, ide, gudgeon, carp to 20lb+ and crucians.

There is a solid path around the lake which affords good access for wheelcahir users.

Day tickets are available from Bagnal and Kirkwood in the town centre, Fraser's Angling in Gateshead, Billy's Tackle in N Shields and Tyneside Angling in Byker.

Ryton and District Angling Club


Fishing on 2 lakes, Tilcon and Stargate (adjacent to each other) plus fishing on Tyne Anglers Alliance waters.

Stargate is 2 acres, 6 to 10ft deep holding carp to 25lbs, tench over 9lbs, bream to 7lbs chub, roach, rudd, perch, pike to 19lbs, eels. There is a platform for disabled anglers, peg 9, near the car park.

Tilcon, 1 acre, 3 to 10ft, carp to low doubles, tench, bream to 14lbs, chub, perch, roach, rudd, ide, crucians. There are 11 platforms, No1 for disabled anglers.

Northumberland CC issues permits for fishing at Tyne Green Country Park, Wansbeck Riverside, Bolam Lake Country Park.

There is a visitor centre and cafe and paths are wheelchair accessible and there are jetties where you can fish from used by anglers and watersports.

Wansbeck and Cramlington Angling Club


The club has fishing on 4 lakes:

Milkhope located in the grounds of Blagdon estate it is a very scenic fishery tree lined and natural holding golden, orfe, ide, carp, tench and crucians.

Brenkley a 28 peg fishery of 2 acres with 10 pegs for disabled anglers and wheelchair user. Good stocks of roach, rudd, perch, carp to doubles, bream and tench.

Horton Grange is a former open cast mine now flooded and landscaped it is stocked with roach, rudd, tench, bream and perch.

Membership is really inexpensive for what you get, disabled, seniors, and juniors get a discount too and under 12s fish for free.

Whittle Dene Reservoir


This Northumberland Water reservoir consists of 3 lakes on the B6318 near Harlow Hill.

The Great Southern Lake is recommended for it's high quality roach. The Western Lake is now a syndicate carp lake which was started in 2011 with the introduction of 460 carp ranging from 5 to 18lbs. Between 75 and a hundred fish have been added annually until 2015 meaning there are over 1,000 fish.
