Bank House Fishery


Catton near Lancaster, 2.5 acre mill pool stocked with rainbows and browns from 2.2lbs to 20lbs plus tigers, blues and goldens. Fishery records are impressive with the biggest rainbows at 23lbs 4ozs, brown 16lb 8ozs, and tiger 10lbs 5ozs.

Lots of corixa and stickle good fly life. Best flies, beaded flies for corixa and stickle feeders, Shipmans CDC, buzzers and sedges. A slow fished buzzer on a floating line is the hot tactic for rainbows.

In the Beacon Country Park this fishery near Goosnargh has 2 lakes, Barns and Beacon. The lakes are stocked with rainbows, brown trout, blues and tigers.

Clegg Hall Trout Fishery


Dyehouse Lane, Rochdale, fishing on two lakes stocked regularly with some very big rainbows, the fishery record is 21.5ozs.

Open all year except Xmas day the average rod catch per visit is 8 fish with many doubles being caught.

Best flies are buzzers which work all year with damsels and pheasant tails fished on a floating line with a long leader as the water warms, dry black gnats and hoppers also do well. Permits.

Part of a glamping site the Flyde fishery does dat ticket fishing on thier spring fed lake. If you are staying there the fishing is free.

Lancashire Fly Fishing Association


LFFA have fishing on the rivers Ribble, Hodder, Lune, and the river Irt in Cumbria.Fly only on all water for salmon , sea trout, brown trout and grayling except high high water.

They also have fly fishing for rainbows and brown trout on Dean Clough Reservoir where day tickets are available. They have an arrangement with Stocks reservoir giving members a disacount.

The Environment Agency offers day ticket fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout on three beats.

Hatton Beat, Top, for 12 rods. Not seen as fly water unless in a spate. The beat extends on the left bank from above the Forge Weir to Escow Beck. Good night fly fishing for sea trout. Fly and lure until 16th June, all legal methods allowed thereafter

Halton Beat, 3 pools all good fly water. 8 rods fly only when the river is above 15 inches at Halton Tool Bridge. Fly only to 16th June,

Skelton, the beat extends from the tidal reaches of the river at Carlisle Bridge to Howe Ghyll Beck, there are clear markers. This is good fly fishing water for 6 rods. All legal method.

Mere Beck


An interesting fishery near Tarleton, Mere Beck is a moving water venue. A series of pools with water moving through all sorts of landscaping icluding well made paths and a long meadering "bridge" giving access to the middle of a bigger lakes. I like.

Stocked with rainbows, brown trout and blues.

The well made paths make parts of this fishery accessible to people with mobility retsrictions.

Pennine Trout Farm Fishery


Located near Littleborough the fishery has 2 lakes both of 5 acres up to 5m deep set in heather moorland.

The lakes are stocked with own grown fish, rainbows from 2.5lb to 20lbs and brown trout the same size. The fishery record for a rainbow is 30lbs 3 oz and 24lb 1 oz for a brownie.

There is a fishing lodge and facilities for disabled anglers accessed off the patio at their licensed restaurant.

Ribble River Trust


The Trust runs a fishing Passport System giving access to 8 beats on rivers in the Ribble catchment.

You buy books of tokens that come in 5s or 10s. Part of the token is posted in a box at the beat.

Depending on the beat the fishing can cost up to 6 tokens for a day. Fishing is for Salmon, sea trout, brown trout and coarse fish

Ribchester and District Angling Club


Ribchester DAC have a considerable amount of water at it's disposal. 6 stretches of the Ribble which is yet another resurgent English migratory fish river with salmon and sea trout retuning increasingly. Brown trout and grayling are flourishing and the river also holds a wide mix of coarse fish: bream, roach, barbel, dace, chud, pike and by romour carp.

They have 3 stretches of the river Calder yet again a river well into recovery.

They have 9 stillwaters, three of which offer trout fishing. Coarse waters with carp in the twenties and many other species.

The do offer day ticket fishing on a smal beat on the Ribble, 400 yards at Tush Pool and Village Front.

Membership is reasonably prices considering the amount of water available

The Rising Fishery


A mixed trout and coarse fishery with 3 ponds located by Higham near Burnley. Set up as a family venue with good access for the elderly or less able.

Broom Stick, 8 pegs, mixed coarse, canal style ideal for the pole. Roach to 2lbs, carp, chub, ide, rudd, barbell and tench.

Cauldron, fly fishing, stocked with rainbows, browns and blues. Regular "clear out" any method sessions.

Hallows, rebuilt it is now a fly fishing lake for rainbows and brown trout.

There is a cafe on site with toilet facilities and parking near the pools.

Some paths look very solid and some good paltforms.

Stocks Reservoir Fly Fishery


In the head of Hodden valley within the Forest of Bowland, the largest fishery in the North West at 350 acres with 4.5 miles of bank fishing. Open from 24th Feb to 30th Nov, 8am to dusk the fishery offers great fly fishing for own reared triploid rainbows, brown trout and blues. There are some stonking fish in this reservoir.

There are 20 Coulam 15ft boats, excellent boats, stable and roomy. There are also five 17ft and seven 14ft Anglers Fancy Irish Lough boats all with 2hp petrol Honda outboards. Boats 1 , 2 or 3 anglers.

Permits with a number of other options available including reductions for juniors and under 17 year olds fish free on the limit for a full ticket holding adult. There are also season tickets available.
