Canals Trust


The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to fish on an impressive amount of water throughout England and Wales (for just £20).

Glamorgan Angling Club


Glamorgam AC have an enviable portfolio of fishing in South Wales boosted by the recovery of so many of the rivers blighted for generations by pollution. Fishing for both coarse and game fish they have 8 stillwater venues and access to 5 rivers.

The rivers are:

River Ely, 39k miles long rising in the hill near Tonypandy. Chub, roach, brown trout grayling and eels.

River Taff, salmon, sea trouts, brown trout, grayling, some big, chub and barbel and dace, roach, perch and eels.

River Trothy, chub, dace, roach, gudgeon, eels.

Usk, chub, dace, roach, gudgeon, eels.

Wye chub, dace, perch, pike, roach, bleak, gudgeon, eels, barbal. No Night fishing.

Seven Oaks Fishery


A mixed coarse / trout fishery with 2 lakes located near Pontyclun:

The Novice Lake is a trout / coarse lake stocked with rainbows to 3lbs plus a range of coarse fish from 1 to 10lbs. Any legal method allowed, all trout caught must be kept and paid for by the pound.

The Coarse Lake has some impressive fish, common carp to 25lbs, koi from 5 to 25 pounds, bream to 8, plus chub, tench, roach and rudd.

The fishery is fully accessible to wheelchair users. Toilets on site, tackle hire and there is also a burger van selling food and drinks.

Open 8am to 6pm all week but you can prebook for night or for 24 hours. Call 01446 622236.

Gribbles at Llantwit Major. A half acre fishery with roach, rudd, tench, crucians, bream, perch, eels. There is a well made path which might give some access to disabled anglers.

Llanthrithydd Lake near Bonvilston, carp, bream, roach, rudd, dace, perch, tench, eels.

Pysgodlyn Mawr, an SSSI which is accessible only by purchasing a key. Grass carp, carp, perch, tench, crucians, rudd, roach, bream, eels.

St-Y-Nyll, Top Pond, Peterston Spuer Ely. Pike, rudd, tench, perch, crucians, chub, eels.

Treose Pond, Bridgend. A popular club fishery with good facilities including 5 platforms for disabled anglers, 2 family platforms, 32 bivvie stands, and tiolets with facilities for disabled. Carp, bream, roach, rudd, perch, tench, eels.

Hazelcourt Fishery


Hazelcourt has 5 lakes fishing for a wide range of fish species:

Catfish Pond, 20 cats 10 to 35lbs with carp to mid twenties. Day tickets 7am to 8pm or 24 hours (book in advance) call 01446 771893.

Reed Lake a float venue for roach, rudd, golden rudd, orfe, tench, bream. The lake has good even ground and is suitable for use by disabled anglers.

Specimen Lake has many carp to doubles and some fish to the 25lb mark. Also bream tench, roach, orfe.

Pleasure lake is a mixed coarse water carp, tench, golden tench, orfe, golden orfe to 5lbs, roach, rudd, bream and chub.

Jims Pond has carp, tench, bream, roach and hybrids.

Parking on site, toilets, tea / coffee avaiable as well as bait for sale.

Caerphilly County Council run Parc Penallta in which there ra 2 pond available for fishing. roach, carp, tench, perch, bream. Permits from local tackle shops or the Post office.

A natural mill pond of about 4.5 acres stocked with carp to 23lbs, tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch, 40 pegs.
