Canals Trust


The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to fish on an impressive amount of water throughout England and Wales (for just £20).

Llyn / Lake

Brecon Reservoir


Further up the A 470 just past Cantef is the 52 acre Brecon Reservoir the smallest of the 3 Taff reservoirs. Wild brownies plus some good over wintered rainbows supplimented from time to time by stocking with rainbows. Bank fishing only but access is good, the east bank being by the roadside.

Llyn Cantef

Llyn Onn Reservoir


A 150 acre Welsh Water fishery in the Brecon National Park stocked weekly with brown trout and rainbows. Best Rainbow 13lb, best brownie 10lb 14ozs. All brown trout catch and release. Fly, spinning and worm allowed.

There is Garwnant Visitor Centre at at the top of the reservoir that has a cafe, shop, play area, sculpure walk, toilets and facilities for disabled persons. There is also a burger van somewhere up there.

Brecon Canal


MTAA have fishing on the Brecon Canal from Canal Basin to Bridge 153 at Penelli. Good roach, dace, chub and bream. Day tickets from Fishtec in Brecon.

Cyfartha Lake


An MTAA water. Coarse fishing in Cyfartha Park during park opening hours for common and mirror carp to doubles, crucians, and silvers. Day tickets from Cefn Newsagents. Google Map 51.757919, -3.394553 Post Code CF 47 8RD

Penywern Ponds


An MTAA water. Top Pond and Middle Pond. Fishing on two ponds either side of the A465 near ASDA. Some good carp present. Night fishing allowed but no bivvies, brollies of storm flaps allowed.

MTAA have extensive fishing on rivers and reservoirs for salmon, sea trout and coarse fish and offer day and week tickets to visitors.

Brecon Canal

River Taff


Once one of the most polluted rivers in the UK the Taff has risen like a Pheonix from the flames.Today it holds good stocks of brown trout offering excellent fly fishing for trout in the half to three quarters of a pound mark with some stonkingly good fish fish up to 3 to 4lbs taken in recent years. Fly, spin worm allowed for trout. Some salmon, fly only C & R.

Tarrell

The club has fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout on three beats on the river Usk. Most salmon are taken on the spinner with flying C's being top dog:

Taff Bargoed Angling Association


This is an excellent facility for both able bodied and disabled anglers.

The club has a fishing on a stretch of the river Taff Bargoed for brown trout and for brown trout and rainbows on two lakes feed from the waters of the Taff Bargoed.

The lakes, Top Lake 3 acres and Bottom Lake 8.5 acres are very well kept with good pathways and parking adjacent to pegs. No steps or gates. There are good double platforms as well as specially designed platforms for wheelchair users. Both lakes are stocked with rainbows and brown trout.

There is a lodge on site with a cafe and toilets including facilities for disabled persons. Permits from the lodge.
